Event details

The Hamsterley Winter Trails are held on Saturday 10 January 2026 at Hamsterley Forest Park, Bishop Auckland DL13 3NL. The event offers two distances:

  • Half Marathon
  • 10k

Entry fees are listed as: Half Marathon £30 (affiliated) / £32 (unaffiliated); 10k £23 (affiliated) / £25 (unaffiliated). The event is organised by Greener Miles Running and is in its sixth year. The minimum entry age is 16.

Course, facilities and event services

Both races follow waymarked footpaths, forest trails and woodland tracks starting and finishing at the visitor centre / forest cafe near the main car park. Terrain includes a mixture of hard packed gravel tracks, single twisting dirt tracks and occasional muddy bridleway. Aid stations and refreshments are provided at points on course and at the finish. Medical support is provided throughout the event and there will be a race HQ with toilets. There is plentiful car parking, with discounted parking charges; participants are asked to consider car sharing.

Greener Miles Running states eco-friendly practices for the event: no disposable plastic cups, collection of pre-loved running kit, and a packet of mixed wild flower seeds included with entries. Standard event items listed for entries include a bespoke event mug, hot soup and roll, and downloadable event pictures. A mandatory kit list will be issued because winter temperatures may fall below freezing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
