The Halloween Trail is a narrative trail race on 31 October 2025. The course is described as about 8.5ish miles and follows a circular route around the town of Maldon. The route is approximately 95% off road and covers a variety of terrain. The event starts and finishes at West Maldon Community Centre, Sunbury Way, Maldon CM9 6YH. Total places are listed as 100.
A GPX route file is available for download. There is one checkpoint on the course offering a selection of sweet and savory treats. Finishers receive a medal. The event will be run under permit from The Trail Running Association (permit number TBA).
Entry, equipment and race rules
Registration takes place in the community centre, where participants collect written instructions, their race number and a timing chip. The event uses a rolling start format and there will be no separate pre-race briefing; the organiser’s final email will serve as the briefing. Timing is recorded from each individual start.
For safety, participants must run with a mobile phone whose number matches the number left at registration. A separate torch is required - phones are not acceptable as torches. Numbers must be clearly visible on the front and may need to be announced at the finish. Race rules include not passing numbers to others and reporting to the organiser if abandoning the race. Use of personal stereos or MP3 players is discouraged so participants remain aware of their surroundings.
