Great Springs Trail Race - Austin
The event on March 6, 2027 takes place at Southeast Metro Park in Del Valle, TX (4511 Highway 71 East). It offers multiple distances contested on a well-marked loop course that sits on a bluff above Onion Creek and winds through mesquite and tall oaks.
Distances:
- Youth 1 Mile
- 5K
- 10K
- 13.1 miles
- 26.2 miles
- 50K
The main route is a roughly 6.5 mile loop used repeatedly for longer distances. Each loop begins with about a half-mile rocky jeep road descent, includes a short two-way section, a steep punchy climb followed by a steep descent through creek beds, and finishes on wooded single track. Typical elevation gain is about 640 feet per loop. The midway Pump Aid Station and the start/finish aid station provide water, Tailwind, fruit, and grab-and-go snacks.
Course markings include caution tape, yellow directional arrows, and confidence markers. The organizer notes that the course may change and that on-the-ground markings are authoritative. Timing is chip based with ankle-mounted chips; results show both Gun Time and Chip Time. Pacers are not allowed. No official drop bag locations are provided on the course; participants may leave personal items around the race hub but not in the start/finish chute.
Parking uses large sport field lots south of the primitive trailhead and requires a short walk to the race hub. The event includes family-friendly activities and an untimed youth run with finisher medals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
