The Great Glen Ultra (Short Course) is a 42-mile foot race on 4 July 2026 between Fort Augustus and Inverness following the Great Glen Way High Route. The course gains approximately 6,000 ft of elevation and finishes at Inverness Sports Centre with a lap of the 400 m track. Entry fees are listed as £70/£72 and the event has a total allocation of 150 places.

Course and logistics

The route starts at Fort Augustus Village Hall and follows the Great Glen Way toward Drumnadrochit and then on to Inverness. The route is fully waymarked with Great Glen waymarks and arrow signs. There are three main checkpoint/drop-bag locations at Invermoriston, Drumnadrochit and Abrachan; checkpoint locations and distances may vary slightly year to year. Runners register at Inverness Sports Centre and are transported by race bus to the start. Runners should bring three numbered drop bags and a kit bag that will be returned to the finish.

Rules and mandatory kit

The race is designed to be self-sufficient and unsupported. Spectators and support are only permitted at Invermoriston, Drumnadrochit and the finish; no spectators are allowed at Abrachan. The event rules prohibit place transfers, pacers/support runners, walking poles and dogs. Mandatory kit includes a foil survival blanket, a means to carry at least 1 litre of water and a working mobile phone. Failure to follow race rules can result in disqualification. A hill running event at Great Glen House on 14 March 2026 hosting the North District Hill Running Championships. The senior course is 7 km with 400 m climb on marked tracks and participants must carry map and safety kit.

Multi-day trail ultramarathon in the Scottish Highlands on 2 and 3 May 2026, offering six distances from 12 km to 110 km. Aid stations are placed about every 10 km and under 23s may enter free.
