Event overview

Salomon Skyline Scotland® is a mountain and trail running event established in 2015. The event moved to Kinlochleven in 2016 and expanded to nine races. It has featured in the Skyrunning World Series, Golden Trails World Series, Spartan Trail and Ultra World Championships, and it hosted the Skyrunning World Championships. The event has attracted more than 2,000 participants from up to 50 countries annually and has generated millions of pounds of economic impact for the Lochaber region. The event returned for a relaunch in 2025.

All races for the 2025 edition take place on Saturday, 20th September 2025, at Nevis Range, near Fort William.

Races and event features

The 2025 programme includes seven newly designed race routes with distances from 10 km to 100 km. Race types include skyrunning, ultra, and low-level trail formats. The Ben Nevis Skyline was selected as a 2025 Golden Trail World Series qualifier race.

On-site and broadcast features for participants and spectators include commentary and big screens, live streaming and online tracking, local food and drink traders, a partner expo, a grand prize giving ceremony, and an evening party. Trail runs nearby

A 400 km, eight day stage race across the Scottish Highlands, starting in Fort William and finishing at Cape Wrath. The route crosses Knoydart, Kintail, Torridon, Assynt and Sutherland and runs through remote, varied terrain.

Run the iconic West Highland Way, a 96 mile point to point ultra from Fort William to Milngavie across stunning Highland terrain. Choose the Ben Nevis variant to add a summit and extra miles for a tougher challenge.

Glen Lyon Ultra is a scenic 31 mile off road test in remote Perthshire with about 3500 ft of ascent and wet river crossings around Loch Lyon. Rugged trails and lochside camping make this a memorable challenge for adventurous trail runners.

The Glen Lyon Trail Race on 7 June 2026 is a scenic 15.5 mile off road loop around Loch Lyon with 1,500 ft of climb and several river crossings. Limited to 150 runners, expect a tough but rewarding challenge with camping at Glen Lyon Dam.
