Salomon Skyline Scotland overview

Salomon Skyline Scotland is a mountain and trail running event first held in 2015. The event moved to Kinlochleven in 2016 and expanded to nine races. It has featured in international race series and championships and has hosted the Skyrunning World Championships. The event has attracted more than 2,000 participants from as many as 50 countries each year and has produced millions of pounds of economic impact for the Lochaber region.

Races, location, and event format

The event returned in 2025 with a redesigned programme of seven races. Races are staged at Nevis Range, near Fort William, and all races take place on a single day. Race formats include skyrunning, ultra, and low-level trail races, with distances ranging from 10 km to 100 km. One race, the Ben Nevis Skyline, was selected as a Golden Trail World Series qualifier in 2025. The event offers live commentary and big screens, live streaming and online tracking, a partner expo, local food and drink traders, a grand prize giving ceremony, and an evening party. Run a scenic 15.5 mile loop around Loch Lyon in Perthshire, fully off road with steep climbs, rolling trails and several river crossings that will likely leave feet wet. Finish at Glen Lyon Dam and camp on site for a wild weekend escape.

Run the Great Glen Way from Fort William to Inverness in a solo, unsupported 72 mile ultra through the Scottish Highlands. Fully waymarked and carrying UTMB points, it is a scenic but demanding challenge for experienced endurance runners.
