The Grand Traverse Mountain Run
The Grand Traverse Mountain Run is an ultramarathon from Mt. Crested Butte to Aspen, Colorado, following the route of the Grand Traverse Backcountry Ski race. The point-to-point course is 40 miles long and crosses the Elk Mountains.
The event features over 6,000 feet of elevation gain. There are five aid stations along the course, and drop bags are available at the Taylor Pass aid station and the finish line. Hydration and nutrition on course are provided by official sponsors.
All participants are required to carry mandatory gear, including a waterproof windshield with hood, a hat or buff, and gloves. A Colorado Outdoor Search and Rescue (CORSAR) Card or a current Colorado hunting/fishing license is also required for entry.
Registration and Policies
General registration for the run opens on December 1. The event operates a waitlist, which closes approximately two weeks before race day. The event is a fundraiser for Crested Butte Nordic, a recreational non-profit organization. Race entry refunds or transfers between participants are not offered. The organizers strongly recommend purchasing Racer Protection at registration.
