Grand Traverse Mountain Run

The Grand Traverse Mountain Run is a point to point ultramarathon from Crested Butte to Aspen, Colorado, held on September 5, 2026. The course follows the route of the Grand Traverse backcountry ski race and covers 40 miles across the Elk Mountains with over 6,000' of elevation gain. The route crosses high alpine terrain and can include sections run in darkness and conditions where trail markings are difficult to see.

The event is organized as a fundraising race for Crested Butte Nordic, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Entry policies include no refunds or transfers between participants and a traditional waitlist. Priority Triple Crown and general registration dates are noted for the 2026 season.

There are five aid stations on the run course. Drop bags are available at the Taylor Pass aid station (mile 23.5) and at the finish. Aid stations provide water, electrolyte products, energy gels and chews, fruit, salty and sweet snacks, and select hot items at Taylor Pass.

Mandatory gear for runners includes a waterproof windshield with hood, a hat or buff, gloves, and a Colorado Outdoor Search and Rescue card or current Colorado hunting or fishing license. Tracking is required for racer safety. Post-race shuttle and bike transport options are available to book for return logistics. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
