Gothic Mountain Tour : event overview
The Gothic Mountain Tour is a cross-country ski race in Crested Butte, Colorado on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Both courses circumnavigate Gothic Mountain and finish on the CB Nordic trail system at the Magic Meadows Yurt. Distances offered:
- 23.5 miles – competitive course
- 17.85 miles – recreational course
The competitive course begins behind the Crested Butte Community School. The recreational course begins at the Snodgrass Trailhead in Mt. Crested Butte. The event is operated as a fundraising race for Crested Butte Nordic, a 501(c)(3) organization, and the entry fees support local groups including Crested Butte Search and Rescue and the Crested Butte Avalanche Center.
Logistics, gear and support
Registration opens in mid-October and the race is capped at 200 participants per Forest Service permit; a waitlist is maintained and the event historically sells out in January. The organizer does not offer refunds or transfers between participants. Racer Protection is recommended at registration. A Colorado Outdoor Search and Rescue card (or current Colorado hunting/fishing license) is required and must be shown at bib pick-up.
Mandatory avalanche rescue gear and personal protection gear are listed: beacon, shovel, probe; helmet; neck gaiter or balaclava; and emergency insulation layers (jacket and pants). The event is minimally supported with aid stations at Gothic Townsite, Top of the World, and Pittsburgh Townsite. Race staff will transport one small finish line bag to Magic Meadows Yurt. The race provides shuttle service near the finish to return racers to parking areas. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
