Course, rules and facilities

Competitors set off on the hour every hour to complete a 4.167 mile loop. Runners must complete each loop within the hour to start the next loop; failing to make the start area before the bell on the hour results in disqualification and a DNF. Only the last competitor to finish a loop alone is declared the champion.

The course is described as not flat with elevation gain on each lap. Surfaces include canal towpath, farmland trail, woodland trail and tarmac. A night route uses the tarmac canal towpath to avoid crossing the canal in the dark. The event provides hot and cold drinks, fruit and sweets, camping, toilets, first aid cover, a fully waymarked and marshalled route with chip timing, and a Yorkshire goodie bag for participants. Limited campervan space must be pre-arranged and Kirkstall Forge rail station is a short walk from the venue. Appropriate clothing and lighting are required for night running.
