Route, logistics and rules

The route begins with a loop around Loch Lyon that includes around six river crossings in the first 8 miles. The course is approximately 85% off road with a middle section of tarmac. Water stations and checkpoints are roughly at 8 miles, the halfway drop-bag point (about 15.5 miles), 20 miles, 26-27 miles and the finish. Camping is permitted at Loch Lyon Dam the night before; no open fires are allowed.

Runners must carry mandatory kit (examples listed include a foil blanket, water container, food, a working mobile phone with race control number entered, a small first aid kit and a race vest). Entry has no specific qualification requirement but organisers suggest regular experience of 20-mile runs. The refund policy includes a 30-day cooling-off period with a £15 fee, a 50% refund after 30 days up to 12 weeks before the race, and no refund within 12 weeks of race day.
