Glen Lyon Ultra Marathon

The Glen Lyon Ultra Marathon is scheduled for 6th June 2026 and covers a distance of 31 miles with approximately 3,500 ft of ascent. The event takes place around Loch Lyon and extends into the remote Glen Lochay in Perthshire.

The route begins with a loop of Loch Lyon that includes around six river crossings where participants should expect wet feet. After completing the loop runners pass the start/finish area to collect drop bags, then climb into Glen Lochay to follow a mix of high and low level tracks before returning to Glen Lyon for the finish. The course is approximately 85% off road with a middle section of tarmac. In wet conditions an alternative Route B may be used.

Water stations and checkpoints are placed along the course at approximately 8 miles, 15.5 miles (halfway drop bags), 20 miles, 26 miles and at the finish. Weather in Glen Lyon is variable; past conditions have ranged from snow to very warm temperatures, so participants should prepare for changing weather.

Mandatory kit includes a foil blanket, water bottle or bladder, food, a working mobile phone with the race control number entered, a small first aid kit and a race vest to carry these items. The entry fee includes a race memento, a goody bag and a technical race t-shirt or vest. Camping at Loch Lyon Dam the night before is possible with social distancing and no open fires. Various race rules cover ID at registration, no transfer of places, no dogs and adherence to Covid 19 protocols and marshal instructions.
