Beacons Way Ultra 100km - Event overview
The Beacons Way Ultra is a 100 km (62 miles) ultramarathon across the Brecon Beacons National Park with 3,178 m of ascent. The event follows the official Beacons Way trail and is limited to 250 places with an overall cut-off of 24 hours and an entry fee of £119. The race awards UTMB Performance Index and ITRA points and serves as a Western States 2027 qualifying race for runners who finish within 21 hours.
This is a self-navigation event. Competent map and compass navigation is mandatory and entrants must have prior ultramarathon experience, including completion of at least a 50 mile race and experience running in mountainous terrain. Entrants must be at least 20 years old and in good health.
There are six checkpoints along the route offering refreshments, hot food at indoor checkpoints, and medical support. Checkpoints have strictly enforced cut-off times; runners must check in at every checkpoint or face disqualification. Runners may remain at a checkpoint for no more than 20 minutes after its cut-off if they arrive before the cut-off.
Mandatory kit must be carried at all times and will be checked at registration and randomly on course. Examples include a full Ordnance Survey or Harvey map, a baseplate compass, a minimum 75 lumen headtorch plus 25 lumen backup light, a waterproof coat and trousers, minimum 1 litre water capacity, thermal survival bag, and a fully charged mobile phone.
Additional event details cover start and finish venues, parking (allocated field with a £5 charge per vehicle), dropbag options, optional return coach transport, a no pacers policy, and rules on supporter access to certain checkpoints.
