Event Overview
The Beacons Way Ultra 100km is a 100-kilometer (62-mile) ultramarathon. It takes place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, across Bannau Brycheiniog, the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales. The route follows the official trail of the national park, the Beacons Way. The total elevation gain is 3,178 meters.
Route and Format
The race is a self-navigation event. Competent navigation using a map and compass is mandatory. The course starts near Talybont and includes notable features such as Pen-y-Fan and the Carmarthen Fans. There are six checkpoints along the route offering refreshments, food, and medical support. A strict 24-hour overall cut-off time is enforced, with intermediate cut-offs at each checkpoint. The finish line is at Llangadog RFC.
Participant Requirements
Entry is by application and requires participants to declare suitable experience. Each entrant must be at least 20 years old at the time of the race, be in good health, and have successfully completed at least one 50-mile ultramarathon prior to application. Experience running in mountainous terrain is also required. The event is part of the Western States 2027 qualifying races if completed within 21 hours. It also awards UTMB Performance Index and ITRA points.
Logistics and Services
Registration, kit check, and bib collection occur on the morning of the race at Llangynidr New Village Hall. Parking is available nearby for a fee and must be pre-booked. Participants can use a drop bag service to send bags to a checkpoint and the finish. An optional paid coach transport returns runners from the finish to the start venue after the event. Pacers or support runners are not permitted.
Kit and Safety
A specific list of mandatory kit must be carried at all times, including a physical map, compass, survival bag, waterproof jacket and trousers, headtorch, and a water container. Random kit checks are conducted. The event uses live GPS tracking with an SOS function for safety. Participants are expected to be self-sufficient and assist others in difficulty.
