Furty Furlong is a cross country race held on private grounds at Mapplewell Meadows Farm, Barnsley. The course covers 3.75 miles (30 furlongs) in a single lap. The profile is hilly and the surface is mostly grass with some gravel and shale; parts of the course can be muddy at any time.
The event is organised by Kingstone Runners and has a race licence, permit number 30788. Entry is limited to 150 runners. Minimum age on the day is 14. The race is not suitable for wheelchairs.
Prizes are awarded across multiple categories including senior and veteran men and ladies, first unattached, and spot prizes, plus a trophy for the first corporate team. A corporate team consists of three members, any gender, at a special team rate. Entry fees are listed as affiliated £7.00, unaffiliated £9.00, and corporate team £24.00; on-the-day entry may be available for an additional £2.00 if the event has not sold out.
Race HQ is at the View Cafe on-site. Toilets and water are available. There are no changing facilities, showers, distance markers or baggage storage. Parking is available on-site and car sharing is encouraged. Food and drinks are available at the View Cafe before and after the race, and prize giving takes place there as soon as possible after the event.
Entrants take part at their own risk, must be medically fit to compete and must follow the instructions of organisers and officials.
