Frigus Snowshoe Festival

Overview

The Endurance Society's annual Frigus Snowshoe Festival takes place at Moreau Lake State Park in Gansevoort, NY. The event offers multiple snowshoe race distances and uses a common start and finish location on the beach in front of the nature center. Snowshoes are mandatory. All finishers receive custom medals and swag; the top male and female finishers in each distance will receive awards.

Distances and courses

  • Kid's 1 Mile - 0.5 mile out-and-back loop.
  • 4.7 Mile - single loop; the course shares the start with other distances, splits after about 0.9 miles, and rejoins for the final 1.5 miles.
  • 15K - single loop; starts and finishes on the beach in front of the nature center.
  • 30K - single loop extending the 15K course to explore additional trails.
  • 60K - double loop of the 30K course.

Approximate elevation gain is provided for several distances: the 4.7 mile has about 750 feet of gain, the 15K about 2300 feet, the 30K about 3200 feet, and the 60K about 6400 feet.

Logistics and facilities

Snowshoe rentals may be available on a first-come, first-serve basis through the event or at the park office; rental availability is limited. Restrooms are provided as port-a-john units in the parking lot. Hot food and aid will be available at the finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

The Gurney Lane 5K Snowshoe Race will take place in Queensbury on Saturday 17 January 2026. You can run 5 kilometers.

Run through vineyards at Ledge Rock Hill Winery in Lake George in a chip timed 5k on scenic trails, then toast with a wine pour and fun swag like a soft tee and wine stopper medal. Virtual and stroller friendly options available.

Run wooded trails at Amy's Park in Bolton Landing with 4.5 mile and 10 mile options or run virtually. Proceeds support the Lake George Land Conservancy and its work protecting wetlands and watersheds.
