The Mountain Goat Trail Race - Merck Forest and Farmland Center, Rupert VT
The Mountain Goat Trail Race takes place at Merck Forest and Farmland Center in Rupert, Vermont on September 20. The main trail event follows an approximately 8.5 mile loop on singletrack trails and forest roads with about 1,800 feet of total climbing. The route departs from the Sap House, climbs to the ski trail and the summit of Mt Antone, descends via Masters Mtn Trail to the Hidden Valley Road junction, continues east past Clark Hollow, climbs a forest road to the Glen, then returns downhill to the farm and the Sap House.
Two aid stations are located at the Glen and at the junction of Masters Mtn Trail and Hidden Valley Road; both provide light snacks, fruit, and hydration (Skratch and water). Runners must have their bibs clearly visible and pinned to their clothing. A separate kids run follows a roughly 0.75 mile loop on the dirt road around the animal farm; parents may run with children.
Parking is available in the main lot at Merck Forest; from there participants walk about 1/4 mile along a dirt road to the Sap House. Bathrooms are at the visitor center near parking or primitive facilities near the Sap House. Dogs are not permitted on the race course. All entry proceeds will be donated to Merck Forest and Farmland Center. Course maps will be provided on GAIA and Strava. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
