Slate Valley Scramble : Poultney, VT, August 8, 2026
The Slate Valley Scramble is a trail run and fundraiser organized by Slate Valley Trails. The event includes multiple races on the Fairgrounds trail network in Poultney, Vermont, with proceeds supporting trail building and maintenance through the non-profit Slate Valley Trails, Inc.
Courses run on wooded single-track and double-track trails with variable terrain. Both the half marathon and 8K include some flat sections, rolling hills, and a few sustained climbs, and offer occasional views of Vermont’s Slate Valley. The half marathon covers approximately 13.1 miles with about 1500 ft of elevation gain. The 8K covers 8 km with about 700 ft of gain, most climbing occurring between miles 2 and 3.
Distances:
- 13.1 miles half marathon on the Fairgrounds West and East trail systems.
- 8 km course on Fairgrounds East trails and shared finish.
- <0.5 mile Kid's Fun Run near the start/finish, open to ages 12 and younger.
Aid stations provide water, an electrolyte drink, fruit, and light snacks; runners must carry bottles for refilling because the race is cup-free. The half marathon has multiple refueling opportunities and a time cutoff at the 9-mile aid station; the 8K passes an aid station twice. Finishers receive awards; top three open and female finishers in each race receive awards. Volunteer roles are available and include an event shirt for registered volunteers.
