Buck 50 - Kattskill Bay, NY
The Buck 50 is a 50 kilometer mountain ultramarathon held in the southern Adirondacks on the shores of Lake George. The course starts and finishes at Camp Chingachgook on Pilot Knob Road in Kattskill Bay, NY, and accumulates approximately 9,000 feet of climbing over remote, rugged trails.
The route crosses four of Lake George's taller peaks. From Camp Chingachgook the course follows a dirt approach to the Buck Mountain trail, ascends Buck Mountain, then connects to the Sleeping Beauty trail via Shelving Rock and Dacy Clearing Road. It proceeds over Sleeping Beauty, links to the Black Mountain trail by way of Fishbrook Pond, then summits Black Mountain and drops to Black Mountain Point on the lake shore. The final segments climb the shoulder of Erebus Mountain, rejoin Dacy Clearing Road, and return over Buck Mountain to the finish at Camp Chingachgook.
Organizers require prior ultra-trail experience because of the event logistics and the demands of the terrain. Relevant experience listed by the organizer includes recent finishes at ultra-distance trail races or strong performances at sub-ultra or non-trail races.
Aid stations are located at miles 6.6, 14.2, 18.6, and 25.3, with the finish recorded at mile 32.5. Time cutoffs apply at mile 14.2 (5 hours), mile 25.3 (9.5 hours), and the finish (12 hours). Registration closes September 20, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
