The Firelane Trail Trial is a time trial trail race produced by Go Beyond Racing in Forest Park, Portland. The course is an out-and-back on Firelane 1 that starts and finishes at the lower trailhead near NW St. Helens Road. The full roundtrip distance is 4.45 miles with a total of 1,266 feet of gain and 1,266 feet of loss. The climb to the turnaround is 2.23 miles with about 979 feet of gain. The trail is steep in places, with sections reported as steep as 20% grade. The format uses wave starts: groups of twelve runners depart every ten minutes. The field is limited to 144 spots and there is no day-of-race registration.
Logistics, services and rules
Registrations open Dec 1 and close Apr 25, with tiered entry fees: $55 (Dec 1 - 14), $65 (Dec 15 - Feb 14), and $75 (Feb 15 - Apr 25). There are no transfers and no refunds; cancellations more than 30 days before the race receive a 50% credit toward a future Go Beyond Racing event, cancellations 30 days or less receive no credit. Bib pickup occurs at the start; a tent is provided for coat drop. Parking at the new trailhead is limited (about 20 spots), with some additional nearby parking and street options. No poles are allowed on this course. After the race, participants and spectators may gather at Great Notion Brewing, about 1.8 miles from the trailhead, where a live stream and live results will be displayed.
