The Firelane Trail Trial is a time-trial trail race on Firelane 1 in Forest Park, Portland, held on May 2, 2026. Racers run an out-and-back course that goes to the top of Firelane 1 and returns to the start. The event includes a live feed from the top of the course and a post-race gathering at Great Notion Brewing about 1.8 miles from the trailhead. The field is limited to 144 entries.

Course

The course is a simple out-and-back entirely on Firelane 1, with crossings of the Wildwood and Leif Erikson trails. The roundtrip distance is 4.45 miles with a total of 1,266 feet of gain and loss; the climb to the turnaround is 2.23 miles with 979 feet of ascent. Parts of the route are steep, with grades that can reach around 20% in places. Runners should watch for cross traffic where Firelane 1 crosses other trails.

Registration and logistics

Registration opens December 1 and closes April 25. Entry fees vary by registration period. Wave starts are used, with small groups departing at regular intervals. Bib pickup occurs at the start area; a tent is provided for gear drop. Parking at the new trailhead is limited to about 20 spots, with additional nearby street and private lot parking. The race policy provides a 50% credit for cancellations made more than 30 days before the event; cancellations within 30 days receive no credit. No poles are allowed on this course. A score-O metrogaine across Tigard on a new 23 square kilometer urban map with 2 hour, 4 hour and 6 hour options. Competitors use the MapRun app and are ranked by points, with time used to break ties.

Tackle scenic single track trails around Henry Hagg Lake with a choice of 50K or 25K loops that wind through forest and brief road sections. Aid stations, food, finisher socks and tents await; bring your own cup or pack.

Run through tulip fields at Wooden Shoe TulipFest in Woodburn, Oregon with 5k, 10k and half marathon options and festival admission included. Expect off road trails, mud and variable spring weather for a scenic, fun challenge.

A 100 mile ultramarathon at Stub Stewart State Park with over 7,000 ft of gain across asphalt, gravel and dirt trails. A two person Royal Ultra Relay uses the same course with 13 aid stations, drop bags, pacers and a 32 hour time limit.
