Courses and race details

All races start and finish at the Alder Picnic Area next to the Sandy River. The event is cupless; water is available to fill personal bottles before and after the races. The Half and 10k have aid at the two-mile turnaround point, and the Half has an additional aid point near mile nine. The Half Marathon course totals 1560 feet of elevation and is described as two 10k loops plus an extra mile circle through river and Ancient Forest trails.

Course notes: the 5k is relatively flat, runs through the Ancient Forest, climbs a short gravel road, then follows river trails past the oxbow and boat ramp. The 10k shares the 5k route initially, then climbs to Alder Ridge, circles Elk Meadow, includes a steep 300-foot climb over a half mile and a technical descent with stairs and roots before returning to the river trails. The Alder Picnic Area is reserved for participants and guests; ETA catering provides post-race sandwiches for participants. Parking at the park is charged ($5 per car, buses $7). Park rules include no pets, no alcohol, and no smoking or vaping; cell service is minimal. Finishers receive an Oxbow cup for root beer floats.
