Exterminator Fell Race

Event Overview

The Exterminator Fell Race is the final event in the annual Totley AC race series. The race has a distance of approximately 17 miles (27 km) with a total elevation gain of around 1066 metres (3505 ft). It is a Fell Runners Association (FRA) category B Long (BL) fell race.

Route and Navigation

The route is complex, with several potential route choices across varied terrain including road, track, footpath, woodland, fields, and open moorland. The event is a traditional fell race where self-navigation and self-sufficiency are core principles. The use of GPS for navigation is prohibited. Competitors must carry a physical map and compass. The route is not marked but is partially marshalled, with a number of checkpoints including two self-clip points that all runners must visit in order.

Mandatory Kit and Rules

All runners must carry full FRA mandatory kit, including waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and an attached hood, hat, gloves, a physical map of the route, a compass, a whistle, and emergency food. Mandatory kit inspections will be performed. The race is run under FRA rules.

Facilities and Logistics

The event starts and finishes at the Totley AC Pavilion on Lane Head Road in Sheffield. Limited showers and changing rooms are available. Parking near the start is very limited; participants are encouraged to come on foot, by bicycle, or by public transport (the 97 bus stops a short walk away). Two water stations are provided on the course, but cups are not supplied, so runners must carry their own bottle or cup.

Prizes

Prizes are awarded for the top three male and female finishers, the first Totley AC runner, the first team (first three from the same club), and in various age categories (18-23, Senior, V40, V50, V60, V70).
