Exterminator Fell Race

Event overview

The Exterminator is a fell race organised by Totley AC in the Peak District, starting and finishing at the Totley AC pavilion (postcode S17 3AZ) near the Cricket Inn. The course is listed as approximately 17 miles / 26 km with around 1,066 m of climb and is classified as an FRA category B Long (BL) race. Minimum age to enter is 18 and teams are not permitted. The race has FRA permit and associated UK Athletics insurance.

Course, navigation, entries and facilities

The route covers varied terrain including road, track, footpath, woodland, fields, open moorland and village sections. The course is not marked but is partially marshalled and contains several route choices; navigational skills and self-sufficiency are required. Use of GPX for navigation is prohibited. Mandatory FRA kit is required and will be inspected; required items include a waterproof whole-body cover (taped seams and attached hood), hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. There are two water stations on the course but no single-use cups are provided, so runners should carry their own bottle or cup.

The race uses a series of checkpoints (including two mandatory clip/punch checkpoints late on the course); some checkpoints are marshalled and some provide water. Pre-entry is available and entry on the day is also offered; on-day entry requires payment in cash. Limited parking is signposted on the day and toilets, showers and changing rooms are available at the pavilion.
