Exterminator Fell Race

Sheffield, United Kingdom • 6 Sep 2026

Event Information

The Exterminator is a fell race and the final event in the Totley AC annual series. The race covers a distance of 27 km (17 miles) and involves a total elevation gain of 1066m (3505 ft). It is classified as an FRA category B Long (BL) fell race.

The route is described as complicated with several route choices, running over varied terrain including road, track, and footpath through woodland, fields, open moorland, villages, and hamlets. The course is not marked, and runners must self-navigate. Use of GPS or GPX files for navigation is prohibited under FRA rules.

Kit and Requirements

The race requires all runners to carry the full FRA minimum kit: waterproof whole body cover (with taped seams and integrated hood), hat, gloves, physical map of the route, navigational compass, whistle, and emergency food. Mandatory kit inspections will be performed, and runners without the required kit will be disqualified.

Two self-clip checkpoints must be visited, where runners must punch their race number. There are also several marshalled checkpoints. Two water stations are available on the course, but cups are not provided, so runners must carry their own bottle or cup.

Location and Facilities

The start and finish location is the Totley AC pavilion, behind the Cricket Inn on Lane Head Road, Sheffield. There are free toilets, showers, and changing rooms available on race day. Free snacks and cake are sometimes provided after the race.

Parking near the start is very limited. Arriving on foot, by bicycle, or by public transport (the 97 bus from Sheffield stops a five-minute walk away) is encouraged.

Registration and Prizes

Entry is available online before the race and on the day. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers, the first Totley AC runner, the first team (first three from the same club), and winners in various age categories.
