Essex Winter Midweek Series No7 is a night street orienteering event in Chelmsford that uses the MapRun system. The event is part of the Essex Winter Midweek Series 2025/26 and awards points based on finishing times adjusted by an age/gender handicap system. Best six results from the ten-event series count toward the league leaderboard. Anytime catch-up on MapRun may be available for a limited period after the event, subject to an Anytime time penalty; participants who run on the night receive bonus points compared with Anytime entries. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. A head or hand torch is compulsory and high-visibility clothing is strongly recommended.

Location and facilities

The event centre is The Rising Sun, 232 New London Road, Chelmsford, CM2 9AE. There is no parking at the pub; free on-street parking is available nearby and Tesco offers limited free parking a short walk away. Toilets are available at the pub. The printed event map is on waterproof paper and shows additional detail compared with the electronic map.

This is a line event with controls visited in order; courses are measured as direct distances between controls so actual running distance will be greater. Controls are sited on fire hydrants. Missed or incorrect controls incur a five-minute penalty. A seven-minute penalty applies for Anytime runs; on-the-night runners receive a 15-point bonus. Join a festive 12k trail outing from Voodoo Keller Bar to Chelmsford Brew Co, with a brewery checkpoint offering a drink and a festive stop to mingle. A fun social run with Christmas medals and postrun drinks back at the bar.

Celebrate the season at the Elves 11ish Trail on 21 December in Maldon, a mostly off road 11 Elvish mile circular run between Maldon and Mundon. Expect a friendly checkpoint, a finisher medal, hot drinks and plenty of festive fancy dress.

Finish the Crown to Crown series with a festive off road 5 km through bridleways and Willow Park on Boxing Day 2025. Scenic trail loop finishes by the Miller & Carter Crown pub with marshals and on course first aid.
