The Essex Way Ultra

The Essex Way Ultra is an 82-mile ultramarathon held 3–4 July 2026. The route follows the full Essex Way trail, starting at Epping tube station in the City of London and finishing at the high lighthouse in the port of Harwich. The event is organised by Rocketship Events Ltd and licensed by the TRA and held under UK Athletics rules.

Event details

The course terrain includes mixed trail, footpath, track and road, with a stated total elevation gain of 3,469 ft. The event has a 24-hour cut-off and uses five checkpoints. Race services include one drop bag per entrant, GPS tracking and timing provided by Open Tracking, and a race medical team. Entry fees are listed as £103 for affiliated runners and £105 for unaffiliated runners, plus a service/booking fee of 4% (minimum £0.50). One pound from each entry is donated to Essex Wildlife Trust. A winter trail run supporting Farleigh Hospice near Woodham Ferrers offering 10 km and half marathon routes on grass, tracks and paths, with written route instructions, cupless aid stations and on-site refreshments.

A 5K self navigational trail run at Nuclear Essex on 14 February supporting the British Heart Foundation. Participants follow a checkpoint route, are asked to wear something red and receive hot chocolate and Jammie Dodgers at the finish.
