Eastern States 100

The Eastern States 100 is a circular trail race through the rugged heart of the Appalachians in Pennsylvania. The course circumnavigates Pine Creek, featuring approximately 20,000 feet of elevation gain across a landscape defined by rocky hollows, diverse forests, and extensive single-track trails. Participants traverse multiple historic and scenic footpaths, including the Mid State Trail, the Black Forest Trail, and the West Rim Trail.

The route includes relentless 900 to 1200 foot climbs and descents. Significant landmarks along the course include the panoramic Ramsey Bend Vista, the one-lane steel bridge at Blackwell, and Gillespie Point. The terrain consists of a mixture of single track, old logging roads, and abandoned stone quarries. Runners may encounter local wildlife such as deer, black bears, bald eagles, and rattlesnakes.

Participants can choose between two entry classes:

  • 100 Miles (Supported): Crew assistance is permitted at designated aid stations, and pacers are allowed starting at specific points.
  • 100 Miles (Unsupported): No crews or pacers are allowed. Runners must rely on official aid stations and their own drop bags.

Registration requires completion of at least one official 50K trail race within a specific timeframe prior to the event. The course passes through a limited number of civilization centers, including Ramsey, Blackwell, Hyner Run State Park, and Slate Run, with support provided at well-stocked aid stations throughout the loop.
