Eastern States 100

Eastern States 100 is a 103 mile trail ultramarathon in Waterville, Pennsylvania, featuring roughly +20,000 ft of elevation gain and a historical finish rate near 49 percent. The route circumnavigates Pine Creek and uses long sections of established long‑distance trails, including the Mid State Trail, the Black Forest Trail, the West Rim Trail, the Donut Hole Trail, the T‑Squared Trail, the Long Branch Trail, and the Tiadaghton Trail, plus several shorter connector trails.

The course includes repeated 900 to 1,200 foot climbs and steep descents, single track, old logging roads, rocky hollows, and abandoned stone quarries. Runners pass through or near Ramsey, Blackwell, Hyner Run State Park, and Slate Run and may encounter deer, bear, bald eagles, and rattlesnakes. The event provides well stocked aid stations along the loop.

The race is not entry level. All participants must have finished at least one advertised 50K trail race within the official cut‑off between January 1, 2024 and the date of registration or waitlist pickup. Timed events, FKTs, obstacle courses, and multisport events do not meet the qualifying requirement. The qualifying 50K must be completed prior to registration.

Runners register into two categories. Supported runners may use crew at designated crew‑accessible aid stations and may have pacers from approved points. Unsupported runners may not use crew or pacers; they retain access to official aid stations and may be reclassified if they accept crew or pacers during the race.
