Black Forest Ultra
The Black Forest Ultra is a 100K trail race held near North Bend, PA, at 86 Hyner Park Road on the Black Forest Trail in the Pennsylvania Wilds. The course is a lollipop layout with reported total elevation gain of over 13,400 feet. Runners encounter steep sections including climbs of more than 1,000 feet in under a mile and a variety of forest types such as pine plantations, giant hemlocks, and red spruce. The event takes place during peak fall colors.
The course reverses direction each year so that the section with the majority of elevation gain alternates between the front half and the back half. Event rules prohibit crews, pacers, and spectators. The Black Forest Ultra is associated with the Pennsylvania Triple Crown series and the Blacklist challenge, which recognizes athletes who complete the series together with this 100K in a single season.
Practical information available from the organizer includes bib pick up locations, course maps, aid station charts, results, photos, and service requirements.
