Boulder Beast is a trail event held on Bald Eagle Mountain near Lock Haven, PA. The course crosses varied terrain including a notable boulder field and named trails such as Goat Path, Lightning Ridge, Gut Check, Black Diamond, Crossover, Fleming Way, Chestnut Flats and the Gorge Trail. The longer course is about 24 miles and features approximately 6,000 feet of vertical gain.

The event offers two distance options:

  • About 24 miles with technical boulder sections.
  • 25K that reaches the boulder field and the Rote Overlook before returning.

The start and finish occur at the Castanea Township Fire Company picnic grounds, where free camping and parking are available without reservations. Pre-race packet pick-up and a Friday night gathering are part of the weekend schedule. After the race there is a post-race picnic with food and beverages.

Organizers enforce strict cut-off points at multiple aid stations for runner safety and volunteer support; participants who miss cut-offs are removed from the longer course or directed onto the shorter course. Registration opens in December 2025 and is limited to the first 600 entrants or the September 1 deadline. Entry fees are nonrefundable and bib transfers or deferments are not permitted. Brave the Frozen Snot in McElhattan, PA on Feb 7, 2026, a technical winter mountain trail race with steep climbs, boulder fields and rope assisted descents. Multiple distances up to a rugged 25K; not for beginners.

Enjoy a crisp winter 4 mile trail run through woodland at RB Winter State Park near Mifflinburg, PA, followed by a cozy post race gathering with hot soup and food. Finishers receive a bottle of wine or grape juice.

A trail 10K at Zindel Park in McElhattan PA covering about 6.6 miles with roughly 1400 feet of climbing across a series of named trails. The event is based at Durty Dabbers Pavilion with parking and shuttle access.

The Rider Rattler will take place in Montoursville on Saturday 28 March 2026. You can run between 4 and 8 miles.
