Boulder Beast is a trail running event near Lock Haven, PA, based at the Castanea Township Fire Company picnic grounds. The event includes a prominent boulder field and several named trails, including Goat Path, Lightning Ridge, Gut Check, Black Diamond, Crossover, Fleming Way, Chestnut Flats and the Gorge Trail. There is free camping space and free parking on site.

Course details and cut-offs
The 25K course has the first 3.5 miles on road and the next three miles on trail; runners must reach the bottom of the boulder field by 10:30am or be removed. Cut-off points for the longer course include Boy Scout AS (mile 8), Zindel Park AS (mile 11), Vets+ AS (mile 16) and Leadership CC AS (mile 21) with specific cut-off times at each aid station. If a 25-miler entrant reaches Boy Scout AS after its cut-off, they will be directed onto the shorter course.
Registration and race logistics
Registration opens December 16 and is limited to the first 600 entrants or the September 1 registration deadline. Entry fees listed are $80 for the 25K and $90 for the longer distance. The event has a pre-race party and bag pick-up on the day before the race, and a post-race picnic with food and beverage.
