Boulder Beast
Boulder Beast is a trail running event in Lock Haven, PA, organized by PA Trail Dogs. The event is centered on a well known boulder field and uses a network of named trails including Goat Path, Lightning Ridge, Gut Check, Black Diamond, Crossover, Fleming Way, Chestnut Flats and the Gorge Trail. The course also provides views of the Rote Overlook.
The event offers two distance options and has strict cut-off points at several aid stations to ensure runner and volunteer safety. Cut-off locations and times are specified for each course, including a required passage through the bottom of the boulder field at mile 6.5. If a 24-mile entrant misses the Boy Scout aid station cutoff at mile 8 they will be directed onto the 25K course. The event limits entries to the first 600 runners or until the September 1st registration deadline. Registration opens December 16, 2026 at 7:00 PM EST.
The start and finish are located at the Castanea Township Fire Company picnic grounds. There is on-site camping and free parking with no reservations required. The schedule includes a Friday evening pre-race gathering with bag pick-up, and a post-race picnic with food and beverage at the finish area.
