Boulder Beast : Lock Haven, PA
Boulder Beast is a trail running event held on Bald Eagle Mountain near Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. The main course is about 24 miles long and features roughly 6,000 feet of vertical gain. A shorter 25K option follows parts of the same terrain and reaches the boulder field and the Rote Overlook before returning to the finish.
The route passes named trails and sections including Goat Path, Lightning Ridge, Gut Check, Black Diamond, Crossover, Fleming Way, Chestnut Flats, and the Gorge Trail. The early course includes road running for the first 3.5 miles followed by approximately three miles of trail before the boulder field. The start and finish are located at the Castanea Township Fire Company picnic grounds, where there is camping space and free parking with no reservations required.
Organizers enforce strict time cut-offs at several points on the course; these cut-offs are used to protect participant safety and volunteer resources and are applied without exception. The event includes a pre-race gathering and bag pick-up on the evening before the race and a post-race picnic with food and beverages.
Registration opens in December 2025 and entries are limited to the first 600 runners or until the September 1 registration deadline. The event policy disallows refunds, bib transfers, deferments, or unofficial entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
