Boulder Beast : Lock Haven, PA
Boulder Beast is a trail running event held at the Castanea Township Fire Company picnic grounds in Lock Haven, PA. The course includes a boulder field and several named trails: Goat Path, Lightning Ridge, Gut Check, Black Diamond, Crossover, Fleming Way, Chestnut Flats and the Gorge Trail. There is camping space and free parking with no reservations required.
The event offers two distance options:
- 25 miles
- 25K
Registration opens December 16 at 7pm EST and is limited to the first 600 entrants or until the September 1 registration deadline. Entry fees listed for 2026 are $80.00 for the 25K and $90.00 for the 25 miler. The organizer’s policies state there are no refunds, bib switches, deferments, selling of bibs, or unregistered participants.
The course uses multiple aid stations and enforces strict cut-off times to ensure runner safety and volunteer support. Cut-offs for the 25 miler include Boy Scout AS (mile 8) at 11:00am, Zindel Park AS (mile 11) at 12:30pm, Vets+ AS (mile 16) at 3:00pm, and Leadership CC AS (mile 21) at 5:00pm. For the 25K, runners must reach the bottom of the boulder field by 10:30am and the Boy Scout AS (mile 8) by 1:00pm; the final cut-off is Leadership CC AS (mile 12) at 5:00pm. A pre-race packet pick-up and party is scheduled the evening before the event, and a post-race picnic with food and beverage is provided at the finish area.
