Event overview

The Boulder Beast is a trail event held in Lock Haven, PA, with the course based at the Castanea Township Fire Company picnic grounds. The venue provides free camping and parking with no reservations required. A pre-race party and bag pick-up are scheduled Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, and a post-race picnic with food and beverage is provided after the finish.

Course and cutoffs

The course includes a boulder field and trails named Goat Path, Lightning Ridge, Gut Check, Black Diamond, Crossover, Fleming Way, Chestnut Flats, and the Gorge Trail. The route for the shorter distance reaches the Rote Overlook before returning. For the 25K the first 3.5 miles are on road and the next 3 miles are trail. Reaching the bottom of the boulder field by 10:30 AM is required or runners will be removed from the course.

Registration and policies

Registration opens December 16, 2025 at 7:00 PM ET, limited to the first 600 entrants or until the September 1 deadline. Entry fees listed are $80.00 for the 25K and $90.00 for the longer distance. The event policy states there are no refunds, bib transfers, deferments, resale of bibs, or allowance for unregistered participants. Trail runs nearby

Run under the stars at Icicles on the Moon, a night trail event at Zindel Park in Lock Haven on December 27, 2025. Choose a 7 mile or 5K route around the reservoir, bring a headlamp, and help fund Zindel property revitalization.

The Frozen Snot is a winter trail race on Bald Eagle Mountain near Lock Haven PA with 8.3 and 13.5 mile courses. Expect rugged technical terrain, steep climbs, icy or muddy conditions and bring traction gear for a true cold challenge.

Fire on the Rocks 10K at Zindel Park in McElhattan PA on March 14, 2026 mixes scenic singletrack with about 1,400 feet of climbing over roughly 6.5 miles. Expect tough climbs, great views and sticky buns at the finish.

Climb rugged single track through streams and sweeping vistas at the Hyner View Trail Challenge, featuring a punchy 25K and a gutsy 50K with big vertical and technical terrain. Fields are limited, registration opens in May.
