Don's Backyard BBQ 20K/10K Trail Run Challenge takes place on May 16, 2026 at Fort Yargo State Park, Winder, Georgia (Entrance B). The event is a trail run offered in two solo distances:
- 20K Solo
- 10K Solo
Registration is limited to 225 participants. Registration fees change by date: 20K is $65 through May 3 and $75 for May 4-14; 10K is $45 through May 3 and $55 for May 4-14. There is no race day registration. Registration includes a BBQ meal, beverage, and a tri-blend race shirt; additional meals are available for $20. Shirt sizes include men's and women's, with no guarantee for late registrants.
Course and format
The course uses groomed trails at Fort Yargo and features rolling hills. Both distances are run as repeated 5K segments with alternating lap direction: the 20K is four separate 5K laps and the 10K is two separate 5K laps. Runners must complete each 5K segment within 45 minutes; failure to finish a segment within that time results in a DNF. If a runner finishes a segment early, there is recovery time before the next segment begins. If social distancing is required, predetermined starting groups will be used.
Awards and support
Awards are given to overall 1st–3rd male and female and to overall masters, grandmasters, and senior grandmasters for each distance. There are no age-group awards. The event is presented by Dirty Spokes and will donate funds to the Yargo Trail Crew for trail maintenance. BBQ dinner and refreshments are served after the final segment.
