Event

The Deepdale Dash is a not-for-profit charity fundraiser for St. Teresa’s Hospice, supported by Ruined Running Events Ltd. It takes place in Barnard Castle on Saturday 3 January 2026. The event is a 5 mile (ish) trail race with a minimum entry age of 14. Entries open 20 October 2025 and close 2 January 2026. Entry fees are £10 for those 17 and under and £15 for adults. There are 47 participants registered so far.

Route and terrain

Race registration is at Scar Top, Barnard Castle. Entrants will be escorted along the River Tees to the race start by volunteers. The route goes through Pecknell Woods, the Lartington Estate, crosses Lartington Lane and continues to Deepdale Nature Reserve, finishing at Brightwoods within Deepdale. The course starts on concrete but is mainly dirt tracks and fields with a stream crossing, tree roots, boggy sections and technical downhill trails. Trail or hybrid shoes are recommended. Dogs are not permitted on the route because sheep may be present.

Facilities and race services

Toilets are available at the race headquarters at Scar Top. A bag-drop service is provided at race headquarters. Water and snacks are provided at an on-route checkpoint and at the finish. The event will not provide disposable water bottles or cups; participants should bring a reusable bottle. Entries include a way-marked route, first aid provision, a race memento and event photos. A series of organised trail races by Trail Outlaws with distances from 5K to Half Marathon, fully marked and marshalled. Series entry offers a discount and a presentation evening; routes are noted as scenic and well signposted.

A hilly, traffic-free half marathon through Hamsterley Forest on 26 April 2026 with multi-terrain trails, mile markers, water stations and chip timing. Entries limited to 500; affiliated and unaffiliated fees apply.

A beginners fell race at Cockfield Fell on 28 April 2026, run as a social 3.5 km lap followed by a 3.5 km competitive lap for a 7 km off road route. Open to entrants aged 14 and over with entry fees for FRA members and non members.

Evening trail runs at Gibside National Trust on 29 April 2026 across historic woodland and designed landscape. Distances of 5 km and 10 km, live chip timing, canicross friendly, on-site parking and finishers' medals.
