Event overview

The Deception Pass races take place at Deception Pass State Park near Oak Harbor, WA on December 13-14, 2025. The event includes multiple distances:

  • 50K - ultramarathon distance with loops in the Hoypus area.
  • 25K - shorter trail race following much of the same route.
  • 1K Fun Run - children’s loop along campground and North Beach, free for kids.

The 50K lists 4,300 ft elevation gain and loss and four aid stations. The 25K lists 3,000 ft elevation gain and loss and one aid station. Entry fees are shown as $160 for the 50K and $135 for the 25K; the 1K is free for kids.

Course and logistics

The course starts at West Point Amphitheater and runs along Cranberry Lake, including about 1 mile on paved park roads before single-track trails. Trails vary from smooth single track to rocky and rooty sections, with short but sometimes steep hills. The route crosses Deception Pass Bridge twice and includes sea-level sections, bluffs, and forested areas. The 50K features two lollipop-shaped loops after Goose Rock.

Aid stations are stocked with water, electrolyte drink, basic food, some gels, first aid supplies, and feminine hygiene products. Drop bags are allowed at Bowman Bay for both races and at Cornet for the 50K. Friends and family may access aid stations but outside aid on the course is against the rules.

Parking requires a Discover Pass. No overnight parking or camping is allowed at the West Beach start/finish lot; campground camping is available elsewhere in the park. Leashed dogs are permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
