Course Description

The route begins in Grinton with a short road section before transitioning to moorland tracks. It passes the Maiden Castle Iron Age Hill Fort and ascends Whitaside Moor. The course follows Apedale Road to Dent’s Houses, then heads south into Wensleydale. Runners cross the Bolton Estate with views of Pen Hill, pass Green Haw Hut, and traverse Carperby Moor. A descent via Oxclose Road goes under Ponderledge Scar to the village of Carperby. Footpaths through pasture fields lead through West Bolton to Castle Bolton before returning to Dent’s Houses. The route climbs to the Height of Greets, descends to Grinton Smelt Mill, and offers views from Sharrow Hill before finishing at The Dales Bike Centre through Cogden Hall.

The terrain includes hard packed footpaths and tracks, moorland trods, grassy pasture, and some short road sections. Trail shoes are suggested. The distance is approximately a marathon or slightly longer.
