DalesRunner 40 : Reeth, The Dales Bike Centre

The event starts and finishes in the heart of Swaledale at The Dales Bike Centre, Reeth. The route follows a mix of short road sections, hard-packed footpaths and tracks, moorland trods and grassy pasture. Trail shoes are recommended.

The course leaves Grinton, passes Maiden Castle Iron Age Hill Fort, and ascends Whitaside Moor. The Apedale Road track leads to Dent’s Houses, then a southern track reaches the Wensleydale section over the Bolton Estate with views of Pen Hill. The route continues via Green Haw Hut onto Carperby Moor, descends along Oxclose Road under Ponderledge Scar into Carperby, and follows footpaths through West Bolton to Castle Bolton before returning to Dent’s Houses. Runners then climb to the Height of Greets, descend to Grinton Smelt Mill, pass Sharrow Hill and Cogden Hall, and finish back at The Dales Bike Centre.

Competitors receive a tracker and a GPX trace. The course will be fully marked when shared with the Harkerside Hustle short-course option. Road crossings are marshalled. There is a single generous cutoff at the first visit to Dent’s Houses; runners who miss this cutoff will be redirected onto the short course option. An early start option is available for competitors who estimate taking longer than 6.5 hours.

Post-race soup and a roll are included in the entry. Hot drinks and cakes are available for purchase. Entrants must be 16 or older; under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
