DalesRunner 40

DalesRunner 40 takes place on 4 October 2026 and finishes at The Dales Bike Centre in Reeth. It is the final race in the series and starts and finishes in the heart of Swaledale, offering views into Wensleydale.

The route leaves Grinton via a short road section and follows moorland tracks. Runners pass Maiden Castle Iron Age Hill Fort, ascend Whitaside Moor and follow the Apedale Road to Dent’s Houses. The course continues into Wensleydale across the Bolton Estate, past Green Haw Hut and over Carperby Moor, then descends via Oxclose Road under Ponderledge Scar into Carperby. Footpaths through pasture lead through West Bolton to Castle Bolton and back to Dent’s Houses. From there the route climbs to the Height of Greets, drops to Grinton Smelt Mill, passes Sharrow Hill and descends through Cogden Hall to the finish at The Dales Bike Centre.

Surfaces include hard packed footpaths and tracks, moorland trods and grassy pasture with some short road sections; trail shoes are recommended. Competitors receive a tracker and a GPX trace. The route will be fully marked when it is shared with the Harkerside Hustle short course option. Road crossings are marshalled. There is a course cutoff on the first visit to Dent’s Houses, roughly 7.5 miles, after which runners will be redirected to the Harkerside Hustle half marathon route.

Aid stations are fully stocked and include vegan and gluten free options. A hot soup and roll is included in the entry. Minimum age is 16 and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Entry fees are listed as UKA Member £45 and Non Member £47. Entries open 27 November 2025 and close 27 September 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
