The event is a circular trail race of approximately 31.7 km / 19.7 mi. The route starts from meadows north of Muker and follows the Hartlakes valley to Kisdon Force, crossing a foot bridge. It then uses the Coast to Coast path to Ravenseat, crosses open moorland via Robert's Seat and Thomas Gill Hill to the Tan Hill Inn, where there is an aid station. The return follows the Pennine Way to Kisdon, passes Crackpot Hall, climbs Swinner Gill to the final water station, then descends Gunnerside Gill to Ivelet and finishes near the Rampsholme footbridge. The course gains almost 3,000 ft in elevation.

The surface is mainly grass with slabbed sections, hard packed footpath, shooting tracks and short road sections. The organiser recommends trail shoes.
