DalesRunner 30
DalesRunner 30 is an upland race held around Muker that covers approximately 31.7 km (19.7 miles) and includes almost 3,000 ft of ascent from Swaledale to the Tan Hill Inn. The course starts on meadows north of Muker, follows the Hartlakes valley to Kisdon Force near Keld, crosses a river by footbridge and uses the Coast to Coast path to reach Ravenseat, where there is a water station.
The route crosses remote moorland, passing Robert’s Seat and Thomas Gill Hill to arrive at the Tan Hill Inn, which has an aid station. Runners then follow a section of the Pennine Way back toward Kisdon, rejoin the Coast to Coast past Crackpot Hall, climb Swinner Gill to the final water station, descend Gunnerside Gill to Ivelet and rejoin the Pennine Way for the run through the River Swale meadows to finish near Rampsholme footbridge.
Course surfaces are mainly grass with some shooting tracks and a short stretch of tarmac; the organiser recommends trail shoes. The course is marked with orange barrier tape, pin flags and coloured arrow signs; key turns and road crossings will be manned by marshals. Aid stations offer water, Active Root, sweet and savoury food and some electrolyte drinks, but no disposable cups are provided. Portable toilets are available at the car park only.
Mandatory kit includes taped-seam waterproof jacket and trousers, hat or buff, gloves, emergency blanket or bivvy bag, a cup or soft flask, at least 500 ml of water and a fully charged mobile phone. Suggested items include map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
