DalesRunner 30 : event overview

DalesRunner 30 is a circular trail race on Saturday 4 July 2026 with race headquarters at Usha Gap Campsite in Muker. The course distance is 31.7 km (approx 19.7 miles) and includes an ascent of almost 3,000 ft to reach Tan Hill. The event has a maximum of 200 entrants and a minimum entry age of 18.

Course and logistics

The route starts from meadows north of Muker and follows the Hartlakes valley to Kisdon Force, then the Coast to Coast path to Ravenseat, across moorland to Tan Hill Inn, and back via a section of the Pennine Way. Key features include the Swinner Gill climb, a descent down Gunnerside Gill to Ivelet, and a finish near Rampsholme footbridge through Swaledale meadows. Terrain types include grassy trods, slabbed sections, hard packed footpath, shooters track and a few short road sections. A GPX file and PDF map are available for download.

Aid stations are located at Ravenseat, Tan Hill and near Swinner Gill; they provide water, sports drink (Active Root), sweet and savoury food and limited electrolyte drinks. No disposable plastic cups are provided, and runners are advised to carry a cup or soft flask. Mandatory kit includes taped-seam waterproof jacket and trousers, hat or buff, gloves, emergency blanket or bivvy, a cup or soft flask, at least 500 ml water at the start and a fully charged mobile phone. Parking and registration are in a field adjacent to the campsite; portable toilets are available at the car park and post-race refreshments are provided at Usha Gap.
