Afoot in Two Dales

Afoot in Two Dales is a 50 mile circuit with 5,500 ft of ascent across the Yorkshire Dales, intended for experienced walkers and runners. The route uses footpaths, bridleways and quiet roads through Wensleydale and Swaledale and includes an ascent of Great Shunner Fell. The course must be completed within 22 hours.

The event is based at Harmby Village Hall, Brook Terrace, Leyburn, North Yorkshire, DL8 5PG, with free parking. The route passes through checkpoints at Redmire, Haverdale, Muker, Hawes, Bainbridge, Thoralby, West Witton and returns to Harmby. Checkpoints are manned and provide refreshments; a hot meal is served a little over halfway and a meal is provided at the finish. Registration refreshments and a certificate are included. Showers and changing facilities are available.

Electronic trackers will be used; the device is small and lightweight and is to be carried in a top pocket of a rucksack or bumbag. Organisers are insured for trackers that are lost or damaged. Dogs are not permitted. Participants must be 18 or older. Navigational skills are required for night time walking over open moorland and a suggested kit list is provided by the organisers.
