Afoot in Two Dales is a 50-mile circuit with 5,500 ft of ascent through Wensleydale and Swaledale on Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 July 2026. The route uses footpaths, bridleways and quiet roads and includes an ascent of Great Shunner Fell. The start and finish are at Harmby Village Hall, Brook Terrace, Leyburn, DL8 5PG. The event must be completed within 22 hours. Entry is by SiEntries only, limited to 250 entrants. Entrants must be 18 or older. Dogs are not allowed.

Route and checkpoints

The planned route runs Harmby - Redmire - Haverdale - Muker - Great Shunner Fell - Hawes - Bainbridge - Thoralby - West Witton - Harmby. Checkpoints are provided along the route; participants must comply with checkpoint rules or face disqualification.

Tracking, safety and kit

Electronic trackers will be used. The organiser describes each tracker as a small device (about 8 cm x 4 cm x 3 cm, 100 g) to be carried in a top pocket; a charge of £150 applies for lost or damaged devices. A suggested kit list for moorland and night walking includes suitable footwear, waterproofs, spare fleece, compass, whistle, torch with spare batteries, emergency bivvy or survival bag, food and drink. Included services and refunds

Entry includes tea and toast at registration, refreshments at checkpoints, a hot meal about halfway, a meal at the finish, a finisher certificate, showers and changing facilities, and free parking.
