Event Overview

AFoot in Two Dales, also known as The Yorkshire 50, is a long-distance event for experienced walkers and runners. The route covers a 50-mile circuit with approximately 5,500ft of ascent through the dales of Wensleydale and Swaledale. Participants navigate a mix of footpaths, bridleways, and quiet roads, including a climb of Great Shunner Fell. The event must be completed within a 22-hour time limit.

Course Details

The course follows a specific sequence of locations across the North Yorkshire landscape:

  • 50 miles (80.5 km) - Harmby, Redmire, Haverdale, Muker, Great Shunner Fell, Hawes, Bainbridge, Thoralby, West Witton, and back to Harmby.

Navigational skills are required, particularly for the sections involving open moorland and nighttime travel. Participants must carry a route description at all times and use it alongside a map or GPS device.

Participation and Logistics

Registration is limited to 250 entrants, and all participants must be over 18 years of age. Entry includes tea and toast during registration, refreshments at various checkpoints, and a meal at the finish. Showers and changing facilities are available at the venue.

For safety and timing, all entrants are required to carry a lightweight electronic tracker provided by the organizers. Mandatory equipment and suggested kit include waterproofs, spare fleece, compass, whistle, torch with spare batteries, an emergency bivvy bag, and a mug. No dogs are permitted on this event.
