Chapelfell Top Fell Race

The Chapelfell Top Fell Race is an AS category event organized by Durham Fell Runners. The race covers a distance of 7 km and includes 400 m of vertical ascent. The course follows an out and back route that transitions from a track in St John’s Chapel to the open fell, reaching the summit of Chapelfelltop at an elevation of 700m.

The terrain consists of a mix of track and rough fell ground. Because the fell section does not have established paths and the route is not flagged, participants must have navigation skills and experience in fell running. Safety equipment is mandatory, and participants should be prepared to carry a map, compass, whistle, hat, gloves, and waterproof clothing with taped seams.

Registration and the race start are located at the Chatterbox Cafe in St John’s Chapel, Weardale. Participants must be at least 18 years old on the day of the event. The course features a significant climb to the summit followed by a direct descent back along the same path to the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
