Dahlgren Trail Half Marathon

The Dahlgren Trail Half Marathon takes place on January 31, 2026, in King George, Virginia (10431 Bloomsbury Road, King George, VA 22485). The event is a half marathon distance. Entry fee listed at $75; the price increases after December 31, 2025. The race is open to participants aged 14 and older. The event has a time limit of 3.5 hours.

Course and logistics

The course is an out-and-back on a flat, smooth, former railroad bed. The start is at the Bloomsbury Road Trailhead and proceeds east for about 6.5 miles before turning back. Aid and facilities are located as follows: water at miles 1.5, 4, 6.5, 9, and 11.5; Gatorade at miles 4 and 9; a porta potty at the Comorn crossing (miles 4 and 9). Race day parking is at the Route 605 Trailhead, with overflow parking off Birchwood Creek Road.

Packet pick up is available Thursday, January 29 at River Rock Outfitter (1382 Carl D Silver Parkway, Fredericksburg, VA) and on race day at the Bloomsbury Road Trailhead. The event is switching to cupless racing beginning in 2026; a reusable SpeedCup will be available at packet pick up or participants may use their own hydration vessel. All finishers receive a custom race medal.

Awards and community support

Overall awards go to the top three men and women with cash prizes of $100, $75, and $50. Age group awards are given to the top three men and women in standard age brackets and are based on chip time; overall awards use gun time. The event supports the Friends of the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to maintain and improve the trail.
