Dahlgren Trail Half Marathon

The Dahlgren Trail Half Marathon takes place in King George, Virginia, along the scenic Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail. The event features a single distance on a flat and smooth course:

  • Half Marathon (13.1 miles)

The route is an out-and-back course that starts at the Bloomsbury Road Trailhead and heads east for approximately 6.5 miles before returning to the start. The path is set on an old railroad bed, providing a level running surface. The event has a total time limit of 3.5 hours, which is a pace of approximately 16 minutes per mile.

Beginning in 2026, the race operates as a cupless event to reduce waste. Participants should bring their own hydration vessels or use the reusable containers provided during packet pick up. Water stations are located at miles 1.5, 4, 6.5, 9, and 11.5, with electrolyte drinks available at two of these locations. Porta-potties are available at the start, finish, and at the 4 and 9-mile marks.

Participants who complete the course receive a custom finisher medal. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, and age group awards are provided across several categories ranging from under 19 to 70 and over. Race participants also have access to post-race food and campfires at the trailhead. Parking is available at the Route 605 Trailhead with overflow options nearby.
