Crackpots Trail Run 2026

The Crackpots Trail Run is an 11 kilometre multi-terrain race held in the village of Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon in North Yorkshire. The event is in its fourth year and has received Racecheck Gold Awards in 2023 and 2024. The route is undulating and includes quiet country roads, off-road trails, scenic moorland and several river crossings within Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The course is fully marshalled, way-marked with flags at frequent intervals, and includes five water crossings. Facilities at race headquarters on Highside Playing Fields include water stations, distance markers, toilets, changing rooms, showers and a baggage store. The event is plastic bottle free, and runners are asked to bring their own cup for water. Chip timing is used and free parking is available close to the start area.

The run is part of the Kirkby Malzeard Family Fete, which features street food, a real ale bar, live music, an artisan market and family activities. All entrants pay an entry fee of £25. Entry on the day is not available. A hand made medal produced in the village pottery is presented to finishers, and a complimentary pie and cup of tea are provided at the finish line.
