Country to Capital Ultra

The 43-mile Country to Capital Ultra serves as a season-opening event for the ultra running community. The course begins at the Shoulder of Mutton Pub in Wendover, Buckinghamshire, and concludes at the Stowe Centre in London, near the Little Venice Canal Basin. This event represents the first stage of the Grand Slam, a series comprising four ultra marathons that total over 180 miles.

The route features a mix of diverse terrains, transitioning from rural landscapes into urban environments. The course composition includes:

  • 11 miles of cross-country trails
  • 12.1 miles of roads and paths
  • 20 miles along the Grand Union Canal towpath

The course is waymarked, though personal navigation is also required. It features a total elevation gain of 1375 feet and an elevation loss of 1720 feet. Participants are supported by five checkpoints offering water, snacks, and fruit cake. A baggage transfer service is available for a single carry-on sized bag to be moved from the start to the finish line.

Every participant is provided with a GPS tracker for real-time progress monitoring via a dedicated app. Mandatory equipment includes a waterproof jacket, survival blanket, whistle, torch, and a fully charged phone with a power bank. All finishers receive a medal and event merchandise, with additional prizes awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
