Course and logistics

The route begins at the Shoulder of Mutton Pub in Wendover and finishes near Paddington and Royal Oak tube stations at the Stowe Centre, W2 5ES. Terrain is a mix of cross-country trails, roads and paths, and canal towpath: about 11.0 miles (26%) cross country, 12.1 miles (28%) roads and paths, and 20 miles (46%) canal towpath. Total elevation is approximately +1375 ft (419 m) and -1720 ft (-524 m). The course is waymarked but requires some navigation; competitors receive an electronic tracker as standard and can use voice navigation resources supplied by the organisers.

There are five checkpoints that provide water and snacks. Portable toilets are available at the start and at or near several checkpoints; finishers receive a drink. One competitor bag no larger than 56 x 45 x 25 cm will be transferred to the finish. Mandatory kit includes a fully charged phone, powerbank, minimum 1 litre water capacity, survival blanket, waterproof jacket, whistle, headtorch or body torch with spare batteries, hat and gloves, and a long-sleeved base layer or fleece. The Geo Tracks GPS tracker uploads position every 10 seconds, is accurate to about 5 metres and has batteries rated to 70 hours. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
