Cottonmouth 8 Mile and Beerlay

The Cottonmouth 8 Mile and Beerlay is a trail running event held at Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, SC on June 6, 2026. The event is offered as an 8 mile solo run or as a relay for teams of 2 to 4. The course is four repetitions of a 2 mile trail loop through grassy paths and rolling hills within the preserve.

The event pairs running with a BYOB drinking format. Before each lap, participants must consume a randomly selected beer drawn from a shared iced community pool. Each runner is asked to bring four beers at 5% ABV or higher to contribute to the pool; volunteers hand out a mystery brew that is already opened. Non alcoholic carbonated options are permitted for minors and for participants who choose not to drink alcohol. The drinking portion is restricted to those 21 and older.

Post race activities include a Beer Olympics program with yard games such as beer pong, tug of war, dodgeball, cornhole, spike ball, and hillbilly golf, plus a hot dog bar, music, and event photos. Included with registration are a finisher medal, custom race bib, event giveaways, chip timing with four lap splits, and awards for top solo finishers and top teams across multiple divisions. Proceeds support the Upstate Running Club youth team and local nature preserve efforts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
