Event Overview

The Cottonmouth 8 Mile & Beerlay is a trail running event held at Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, South Carolina. The event involves a drinking component and is for participants aged 21 and over.

Event Format

Participants can run solo or as part of a relay team of 2-4 people. The total distance is 8 miles, consisting of four 2-mile laps on a grassy trail loop within the preserve. Before each lap, runners must consume a randomly selected beer. Solo runners complete all four laps and drinks themselves, while relay teams have one runner complete each lap.

Participants must bring their own four beers (5% ABV or higher), which are pooled together. Non-alcoholic, carbonated alternatives are permitted for minors or those not drinking alcohol.

Included with Registration

Registration includes park entry, a custom race bib, chip timing, and split tracking for all four laps. Finishers receive a medal, event-themed giveaways, and a race sticker. Complimentary race photos are provided. Post-race, there is a hot dog bar and a party with music.

A free admission to a post-race Beer Olympics, featuring various yard games, is also included. Awards are given to the Top 3 male and female solo runners, and to the Top 3 teams in several divisions: Men's, Women's, Mixed, Masters Male (40+), Masters Female (40+), and Youth (Under 21).
