Cottonmouth 8 Mile and Beerlay
The Cottonmouth 8 Mile and Beerlay is an 8 mile trail event held at Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, SC on June 5, 2027. The course is four laps of a 2 mile grassy trail loop that passes through wooded and shaded areas and features rolling hills and occasional wildlife. The barn at the preserve serves as race headquarters and the beer staging zone.
Participants may enter as a solo runner or form relay teams of two to four people. Solo runners complete all four laps; relay teams tag one runner per lap. Chip timing with 4-lap split tracking is provided for both solo and relay entries. All finishers receive a medal and custom race bibs; the first 50 teams and first 50 solo entrants receive custom race socks.
This event uses a BYOB format. Each solo runner brings four beers and each team provides four beers total. Before each lap a runner receives a randomly selected, opened beer from the community pool and must drink it before running the lap. Drinking is restricted to persons 21 and older; minors and sober participants may use carbonated nonalcoholic alternatives. No swapping of beers is allowed.
Additional on-site features include packet pickup at the barn starting 90 minutes before the event, gear check for BYOB at tables outside the barn, portable toilets, water at the finish, free race photos, music, giveaways, pre-order pizza options, and free admission to post-race Beer Olympics.
Race awards include top three male and female solo finishers 21 plus and team awards across several divisions including men's, women's, mixed, mixed masters 40 plus, youth under 21, and a nonalcoholic division. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
