Cottonmouth 8 Mile & Beerlay - Lakewood Nature Preserve
The Cottonmouth Beerlay is an 8 mile trail running event held at Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, SC on June 6, 2026. The event offers a solo option and a relay option for teams of 2 to 4 people.
The course consists of four repeats of a 2 mile grassy trail loop. The route passes through shaded areas with rolling hills, and the event base is centered around a rustic barn on site.
This event uses a BYOB drinking format. Before each lap, runners must consume a randomly selected beer from a community pool. Each runner is asked to bring four beers of at least 5 percent ABV for the pooled supply; volunteers distribute mystery pours that are already opened. No swapping or peeking is permitted. Drinking is restricted to participants age 21 and older; minors and sober participants may use carbonated nonalcoholic alternatives.
Timing and awards are provided. Chip timing records four lap splits for solo runners and relays. Awards include top three overall male and female solo finishers and top three teams in divisions such as men, women, mixed, masters 40 plus, and youth under 21. Registration benefits include a finisher medal, custom bib, race photos, post-race food and activities, and park entry. Proceeds support the Upstate Running Club Youth Team.
