About the race
Cottonmouth 8 Mile & Beerlay is an 8-mile trail event at Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, SC on June 5, 2027. The format is four laps of a two-mile grassy trail loop; participants may run solo (four laps) or as a relay team of two to four, with one runner per lap. Registration opens 2026-09-01 and closes 2027-02-01; the base registration fee is $20 and a $5 facility/parking fee is collected during registration. The course is a shaded, grassy loop with rolling hills and potential wildlife sightings such as deer and foxes.
The barn at the start and finish serves as race headquarters and the beer-staging area. There is no aid station on the loop; water is available at the finish line. Before each lap a volunteer provides a randomly drawn beer from the event beer pool; under-21 and sober runners may use non-alcoholic carbonated alternatives and are scored in a separate division. Onsite amenities include ample field parking adjacent to the barn, packet pickup at The Barn, gear check for BYOB beer at tables outside The Barn, and three portable toilets at the start/finish.
Event inclusions listed for entrants include a custom race bib, chip timing with live results, a finisher medal, custom race tattoo, Beer Olympics admission, post-race pizza availability, event giveaways, pro race photos, and series recognition as part of the Upstate Brew Series and Upstate Giving Series.
