The Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K is an ultra trail race in the Chiltern Hills. The next edition is on 18th April 2026. The nominal distance is 50K, though the current route measures about 51 km with approximately 996 m+ of elevation due to HS2 road and footpath closures. The race follows sections of The Ridgeway National Trail and passes landmarks including Berkhamsted Castle, Ashridge, Ivinghoe Beacon, Coombe Hill and Whiteleaf Hill. The course starts at Berkhamsted Castle and finishes at Hampden Meadow in Wendover.
Race details
The event is fully marked and supported with marshals at key points. There are three main aid stations located around 15 km, 29 km and 43 km; these offer water, soft drinks, Precision Fuel & Hydration products, snacks and fresh fruit. The race is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules. Other facts: the entry fee is £75 (£73 for affiliated runners), maximum field is 400, minimum age is 20, dogs are not permitted, and there is a 9-hour time limit. Chip timing, live results, course-wide medical support and finishers medals are provided. Required kit includes a mobile phone, route GPX plus a paper map, a light jacket or emergency blanket, a refillable hydration system (minimum 0.5 L), a collapsible cup and cash or card.
