Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K
The Chiltern Ridge Classic 50K is a trail ultramarathon held on 17 April 2027 across the Chiltern Hills. The course covers 50K with approximately 996 m of ascent and runs along the Ridgeway National Trail, linking high points such as Ivinghoe Beacon and Whiteleaf Hill. The route passes through Ashridge Estate, Coombe Hill and other ridge and woodland sections before finishing at Hampden Meadow in Wendover.
The race starts from the historic grounds of Berkhamsted Castle and finishes in Wendover. The opening section includes an undulating 10K through the Ashridge Estate. The route from Ivinghoe Beacon toward Aldbury is noted on the event as a standout 5K of the Ridgeway. Organisers note the current course measures around 51 km due to HS2 related diversions near Wendover.
The course is fully marked with orange arrows and ribbons and marshals are positioned at road crossings and busier points. All runners must carry a digital GPX of the route on a watch or phone; printed maps are provided at registration. Required gear includes a mobile phone with an emergency contact, route GPX plus paper map, a light jacket or emergency blanket, a refillable water system of at least 0.5L, a collapsible cup and cash or card.
There are three full checkpoints at roughly 14.3 km, 29.6 km and around 42 km offering water, electrolyte drink and gels, snacks and fresh fruit. Facilities include toilets at the start, finish and checkpoints, chip timing with live results, course wide medical support, coach transfer options, a maximum field of 400 runners, a nine hour time limit, and a minimum age of 20. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules. Entry fee is listed as £75 or £73 for UKA affiliated runners.
