Cheyenne Mountain Run

The Cheyenne Mountain Run takes place within Cheyenne Mountain State Park in Colorado Springs. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Friends of Cheyenne Mountain State Park, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the maintenance and celebration of the park. All races are chip-timed and utilize color-coded bibs to differentiate between distances. The event uses a staggered start format beginning at the Limekiln Trailhead, where runners are grouped by distance and speed.

Participants can choose from three distinct trail distances:

  • 25K Mountain Challenge: A 14-mile course with a total elevation gain and loss of approximately 3,450 feet.
  • 10K Trail Race: A 6.2-mile route using the Talon and South Talon trail systems.
  • 5K Run/Walk: A 3.1-mile course following the Talon, Sundance, and Turkey Trot trails.

The 25K course reaches a maximum elevation of approximately 9,450 feet and includes a mountain loop. This distance has specific time restrictions, including a cutoff at Dixon Saddle and a finish line closure. The 10K participants complete a counter-clockwise loop on South Talon before returning to the finish. The 5K route provides a shorter loop through the lower trail sections.

Aid stations are positioned at various junctions including Talon/Sundance, Talon/North Talon, and locations along the Dixon Trail. Runners are required to carry their own hydration systems and must be prepared for changing weather conditions. Please note that trekking poles are not permitted on any of the courses.
