Charlie Horse Trail Half-Marathon & Dirty Pony 5K
Mohnton, United States • 24 May 2026
Event Overview
The Charlie Horse Trail Half-Marathon and Dirty Pony 5K take place during Memorial Day Weekend in Brecknock Township, Pennsylvania. This event supports the Berks County Special Olympics and features courses that utilize the Horse-Shoe Trail. The half-marathon is limited to 300 participants, while the 5K offers an all-trail experience on specific sections of the course.
Course Details
The 13.1 mile (half-marathon) course consists of a mix of roads, single-track trails, and private paths. It begins with a half-mile road section to organize the field before entering the Horse-Shoe Trail. Runners navigate a 1.2-mile country road segment at the 4.5-mile mark, eventually returning to the trail system. The final section, known as the Plowville Section, includes varied terrain with rocks and mud. There are three aid stations located at miles 3, 6, and 10.
The 5 km (Dirty Pony) course is conducted entirely on trails. It covers the Plowville Section, which is considered the most technical portion of the half-marathon route.
Participation and Series
Both races offer day-of registration. The half-marathon has a strict three-hour cut-off time at the 10-mile mark. Participants under the age of 16 must obtain approval before entering. These races are part of larger series:
- Triple Trail Challenge 50.3: Includes the half-marathon, a 10K, and a 50K ultramarathon.
- Triple Trail Starter Pack: Designed for those new to trails, featuring the 5K, a 10K, and a relay leg.
Finisher awards and age group awards are provided for both distances, and participants have access to post-event activities at the Sleepy Hollow Athletic Club. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
