Castle Hill Trail Run
The Castle Hill Trail Run is a short-course trail running event on Castle Hill in Townsville. The routes use single track and shared trails with varied terrain, including stair sections, exposed rock scrambles, steep climbs and rewarding descents. The event acknowledges the Wulgurukaba people of Gurambilbarra as the Traditional Owners of the land.
Available distances:
- 4.5 km short course with climbs, stairs and rock scrambles.
- 9 km intermediate course with technical descents and stair climbs.
- 11.5 km long course requiring additional water and trail fitness.
Courses are fully marked with tape, signs and arrows, and marshals are positioned at significant turns. The ground is generally dry and rocky so trail shoes with good grip are recommended. All three courses include exposed rock scramble sections and some technical single track.
Race headquarters is at Belgian Gardens State School, 43 Potts Street, with toilets and shaded areas available. Runners must sign in at Race HQ and collect their bib; pins are provided or runners may use a race number belt. Entry includes a race bib with electronic timing chip, on-course hydration and post-race refreshments, course-first aid and professional on-course photography. There is one water point on course and no cups are provided so personal bottles are advised. The 11.5 km entrants must carry at least 500 ml of water. Prizes are awarded to top finishers and age group winners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
