The event takes place on Magnetic Island with race HQ at the Magnetic Island State School sports oval in Nelly Bay and finishes at the Arcadia Village Hotel in Arcadia. The island features palm-fringed beaches, large granite boulders, hoop pines, sandy shores and fringing coral reefs. Courses run across the island, taking in views over Horseshoe Bay and Sphinx Lookout.

Course, support and rules

All courses start in Nelly Bay and follow single-track trails that climb above Arcadia Bay. Trails are described as technical single track with steep sections, steps and some beach sections on the 21 km course. The 12 km and 21 km routes include out-and-back sections and use tracks near the Forts car park, Horseshoe Bay and Radical Bay. Courses are marked with tape, signage and marshals at key turns.

Entry includes electronic timing with a timing chip to keep, on-course hydration and snack support (no cups provided), course photography, first aid and a bag transfer to the finish. Mandatory gear for 12 km and 21 km includes compression bandages, a fully charged phone, a whistle, an emergency blanket and sufficient food and water; 21 km runners must carry a head torch.
