Canyonlands Half Marathon and 5 Mile

The event on March 21, 2026 in Moab, Utah includes the following distances:

  • Half Marathon
  • 5 Mile

Both races start and finish at Lions Park, located along the Colorado River and adjacent to Arches National Park. The course runs alongside the river through scenic sections described as "postcard alley," then turns and returns to Lions Park where runners can rest on the park's grassy lawn after finishing.

The course features six aid stations stocked with water, Gatorade Endurance Formula, and port-a-potties. Medical staff are stationed along the course and at the finish. Cutoff times are strictly enforced; a pace of 15:30 per mile meets the published cutoff requirements. Participants who do not meet cutoffs are required to board the sweep vehicle, after which course services are discontinued.

Logistics include a required shuttle to the start area, limited parking at the shuttle lot (Helen M. Knight School), and no parking at the start or Lions Park during the event. Packet pickup is held before the race and on race morning at the start area by shuttle; a photo ID is required to receive a packet. Race day registration is not available. Entries are non-transferable and runners may not pick up someone else's bib.

The race began in 1976 with 22 finishers, and the event now draws many runners each March. Runners receive a finisher medal, a custom printed shirt and a bag, and post-race refreshments including a variety of fruit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
