Merrell Cannock Chase Challenge
The Merrell Cannock Chase Challenge is a 100% off-road event held within the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Formerly known as the Cannock Chase Half Trail Marathon, the event features a selection of distances across twisting singletrack, fire roads, and hidden forest trails. The start and finish arena is located at Tackeroo Campsite.
The event offers several individual and team options:
- 10 km: A single scenic lap across singletrack trails.
- 13.1 miles: One lap of the forest course, including hills and valleys.
- 26.2 miles: Two laps of the half marathon course.
- Marathon Relay: For teams of two, with each person completing one half-marathon lap.
- CaniX: A dedicated category for runners with dogs (half marathon distance only).
The terrain is described as undulating with rolling hills, hard stone tracks, and muddy sections in various spots. Participants encounter steady climbs and long descents into valleys, passing through Brindley Heath and open heathland. Water stations are positioned every 4 miles, with distance markers placed at every mile.
On-site facilities include free parking located 100 meters from the start, a secure bag storage area, and catering. Free camping is available on Friday and Saturday at the venue. The course follows a figure-of-eight layout, allowing spectators to see runners at multiple points, including the 1, 3, and 10-mile marks, without traveling far from the main arena. Finishers receive a medal and a goodie bag. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
