Cactus Roulette Endurance Event
Cactus Roulette is a duration trail race hosted by the Lawrence Trail Hawks at Coneflower Campground, Clinton Lake State Park, Lawrence, Kansas. The event offers multiple time blocks and uses a roulette wheel to determine which loop a runner will run before each lap. All loops begin and end at base camp.
Available time blocks:
- 24 Hour
- 12 Hour Owl
- 12 Hour Lark
- 6 Hour
Base camp provides food, water, porta potties, heaters, access to personal drop bags, and live results on monitors. Space is available for personal tents near base camp with priority given to 24 hour entrants. Vehicles at the park require a day sticker or yearly pass obtained at the park kiosk or a self-pay station.
The course uses three counter-clockwise loops, each color coded to match the roulette wheel and served by separate starting mats. Loop details: SWIM BEACH (Blue) is 3.6 miles with 253 ft of elevation on technical trails; CACTUS RIDGE (Green) is 2.6 miles with 239 ft of elevation on technical trails; BUNKER HILL (Red) is 1.9 miles with 150 ft of elevation across cross-country field conditions and two steep climbs.
Every starter receives a completion award. Awards are given in male, female, and nonbinary categories for each time block. The 24 hour event includes cash and custom buckle incentives for high-mileage finishers. Entry in each time block is capped at 50 runners. Rules include a no dogs policy on course, disqualification for littering, allowance of pacers only for 24 hour runners, potential alternate course if trails are unsafe, and a no-refund policy for cancellations with race packets to be distributed later.
