Event overview
Cactus Roulette is a duration trail race held January 24-25, 2026 at Coneflower Campground, Clinton Lake State Park, Lawrence, Kansas. The event is organized by the Lawrence Trail Hawks and offers four time options: 24 hour, 12 hour Owl (Saturday pm), 12 hour Lark (Sunday am), and 6 hour. Base camp will provide food, water, porta potties, heaters, and access to personal drop bags. Each time block is capped at 50 runners.
Awards include a completion award for every starter, category awards (male, female, nonbinary) for each time option, and prizes for first-place finishers such as free entry to the 2027 event. 24 hour runners who complete 100 or more miles will receive custom belt buckles and a cash award condition applies for the $250 prize. Unique SWAG is provided per time block and is guaranteed for registrations before January 9, 2026.
Course and rules
The race uses three counter-clockwise loops. Before each loop, runners spin a roulette wheel to determine which loop they run next. Each loop begins and ends at base camp. Live results will be posted on monitors at base camp.
- 3.6 miles - Swim Beach (Blue); technical trail; 253 ft elevation
- 2.6 miles - Cactus Ridge (Green); technical trail; 239 ft elevation
- 1.9 miles - Bunker Hill (Red); cross-country field with two steep climbs; 150 ft elevation
Pacers are allowed for 24 hour runners only; no pacers for 6 or 12 hour runners. Littering may lead to disqualification. Dogs are not allowed to participate. Vehicles in Clinton State Park must display the required parking permit. Linked teams may spin the wheel as a team, must run together, and cannot exceed five racers; linked teams share any awards.
