Tale of Two Trails is a multi-distance trail event held in Shawnee Mission Park in Shawnee, Kansas, with the start and finish located at Shelter 8 for 2026. The event offers multiple distances run on one or both of the park’s trail systems; each longer loop is approximately 20 miles long.

The courses include a mixture of smooth, runnable sections and technical stretches with roots, rocks, and rolling hills. Much of the route runs under tree canopy with some exposed sections. Course distances are stated as accurately as possible but GPS readings may vary, so distances should be considered “-ish”. The primary route is marked with flags, ribbons, and turn signage, and the trails remain open to the public during the event.

A backup 10 mile route will be used if trails are closed; it uses bridle trail, cross country, gravel, power line corridors, and some paved trail. Aid stations are cupless; runners must carry a reusable cup to receive beverages and soup. Aid stations offer a variety of food and drink in ultrarunning style. Drop bags are allowed for the 40 and 50 mile fields and have specified drop locations and deadlines.

Timing is by clock time and bibs must be visible from the front. Runners must report a dropout at an aid station so they can be recorded as DNF. Race rules include no littering, no hiking poles without prior exemption, no dogs, and no alcohol in the park. Awards will be given for overall podium places and all finishers receive medals.
