Tale of Two Trails
Tale of Two Trails takes place October 3, 2026 at Shawnee Mission Park in Shawnee, Kansas. The event is organized by Team Sparkle and offers multiple trail distances that use the park's north and south shore trail systems; each main loop measures about 20 miles and the 10 mile course runs on a single trail system. The start and finish are at Shelter 8 for 2026.

The course combines runnable sections and technical singletrack with roots, rocks, and rolling hills. Trails run largely under tree canopy with some exposed stretches. Course markings include flags, ribbons, and additional signage; runners are responsible for following the marked route. If trails are closed for wet conditions, an alternate mixed-surface route will be used and the primary course may be shortened to an approximately 10 mile backup with a central aid station.
Aid stations are cupless; runners must carry a reusable cup to receive beverages. Stations supply Tailwind, sodas, fruit, sandwiches, salty snacks, sweets, and soup later in the day. First aid kits are available but general medications are not provided. Drop bags are permitted for 40 and 50 mile runners and must be left at designated locations before the race to be transported to Red Crossing.
Timing is by clock and visible front bibs are required. Runners who withdraw must notify aid station staff to be recorded as a did not finish. Park hours set midrace cutoffs; runners must complete the course within those limits. Pacers and crew are allowed under specified rules and must follow race directions. Race rules prohibit littering, alcohol in the park, hiking poles except by exemption, and dogs on course. Awards include overall podium places by gender category and finisher medals.
