Tale of Two Trails

Tale of Two Trails is a trail running event held at Shawnee Mission Park in Shawnee, Kansas. The course combines two separate trail systems in the park; the 10 mile course uses a single trail system while the 20, 40, and 50 mile courses run through both the North and South shore trail systems with a brief paved connector. Each loop is approximately 20 miles.

Distances:

  • 50 Miler
  • 40 Mile
  • 20 Mile
  • 10 Mile

Terrain includes smooth runnable sections, technical sections with roots and rocks, rolling hills, tree canopy, and a few exposed areas. Course markings use flags, ribbons, and additional signage; runners are responsible for knowing and following the route. If park trails are closed for wet conditions, a backup 10 mile route of bridle trail, cross country, paved, and gravel will be used with one central aid station.

Aid stations are cupless; runners must carry a reusable cup. Aid stations provide beverages including Tailwind and sodas, fruits, sandwiches, salty snacks, sweets, and later soup. Drop bags are allowed for 40 and 50 mile runners at specified locations and must be delivered by race morning. Timing is by clock and bibs must be visible. Runners who drop must notify aid station staff to be recorded as DNF. There is a course cutoff tied to park hours. The event includes overall podium awards and finisher medals and participates with the Trail Mix Fund to support entry assistance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
