Tale Of Two Trails
The Tale Of Two Trails event takes place in Shawnee Mission Park in Shawnee, Kansas. The event name comes from the course combining two separate trail systems within the same park. The 10-mile race uses only one trail system. The 20-mile, 40-mile, and 50-mile races run through both the North and South shore trail systems, connected by a brief paved trail section. Each full loop is 20 miles long.
The terrain includes smooth runnable sections, technical sections with roots and rocks, and rolling hills. The trails are primarily under tree canopy with some exposed areas. The course will be marked with flags, ribbons, and signage for turns. Trails remain open to the public during the race.
In case of trail closures due to wet conditions, an alternate 10-mile backup course will be used, consisting of bridle trail, cross country, paved, and gravel paths.
Aid stations are cupless; runners must carry their own reusable cup for beverages like soda, Tailwind, or soup. Aid stations will offer a variety of foods and drinks. Drop bags are allowed for 40-mile and 50-mile runners at designated locations.
The race has a final cutoff at 10:00 PM. Pacers are allowed for 50-mile runners starting at the 40-mile point. Crew access is permitted only at designated areas outside specific aid stations.
All finishers receive a medal. Overall podium awards are given for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
