Cabin Fever 50K, New River Gorge National Park

Cabin Fever 50K is a point to point ultramarathon of roughly 50K through New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. The route begins in downtown Fayetteville and finishes at Hawks Nest State Park, sharing much of the Rim to River 100 course. Terrain includes high ridgeline single-track, sections with waterfall views, and descents to the New River banks beneath the New River Gorge Bridge.

The event is held in winter and emphasizes planning and prepared gear. Participants must carry an emergency (space) blanket, a headlamp or flashlight (not a phone), and their own hydration bottle, flask, or bladder; the race is cupless and aid stations do not provide cups. There are three fully stocked aid stations and one hydration-only station on course; one aid station will be unmanned and supply hydration only. Participants have a ten hour time limit to complete the course and cut-off times at aid stations are strictly enforced.

Logistics include bib pick-up and drop bag service at provided check-in locations in Fayetteville, and a shuttle option from the finish area to the start that requires prior registration. One small drop bag per runner is allowed and must be turned in at check-in; drop bags must be collected at the finish on race day. Awards and finisher items are given for top finishers and all finishers within the allotted time. Proceeds support the Adventure Appalachia nonprofit.
