Rim to River 100
The Rim to River 100 is a 100-mile out-and-back ultramarathon that takes place through the New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. The course begins and ends at ACE Adventure Resort and travels multiple times from the rim of the gorge down along the banks of the New River. It is described as the first and only 100 mile trail race in West Virginia.
Terrain includes winding single-track and rail-to-trail sections, with 84 miles on trail, 6 miles on dirt road, and 10 miles on paved surfaces. Total ascent and descent are each approximately 12,000 feet, and elevation ranges from about 823 ft to 2,015 ft. The route passes waterfalls, whitewater, overlooks, abandoned mining structures, ghost town ruins, and old cemeteries. The course crosses Arbuckle Creek as the largest unbridged creek crossing and uses numerous wooden bridges that may be slippery or have broken boards.
Crew support is allowed only at designated aid stations, including Concho Rim, Bike Farm, Hawks Nest, and Cunard, and crew must follow traffic and parking rules. Pacers may join at Hawks Nest and must meet age, registration, and conduct requirements. Drop bags are accepted only at specified aid stations and must be turned in at pre-race check-in. Participants have 32 hours to complete the course. Finishers within the allotted time receive a custom belt buckle and a locally made finisher mug, and a special buckle is awarded for sub-24 hour finishes. Proceeds support the nonprofit Adventure Appalachia. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
