New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race
The New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race is a 6 mile running road race that travels from one rim of the New River Gorge to the other. The course follows Fayette Station Road - Route 82, Burma Road, and Ames Heights Road, drops approximately 800 feet to cross the New River, and then climbs approximately 800 feet back to the opposite rim. The route includes a short trail section near the finish and a steepest grade reported at 20 percent.
The event is hosted by Active Southern West Virginia and finishes at Adventures on the Gorge. Racers conclude the course at the resort rim side pool, where a catered post-race brunch is provided overlooking the New River Gorge. Participants are provided bus transportation to the start line, and the course operates on closed roads with chip timing and a water station on route. A finisher medal, short sleeve unisex t-shirt, and finish line photos are part of the event features.
Racers must sign a release of liability, follow race rules and the designated course, and maintain at least a 20-minute per mile pace if walking to complete the event during the closed road time frame. There are no refunds for cancellations; registrations may be transferred to another person. Mailing of race items after the event may incur a $10 donation to cover shipping and handling.
