New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race

The New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race is a 6 mile running road race that travels from one rim of the New River Gorge to the other. The course descends to the river, crosses the New River, and climbs back to the opposite rim, finishing with a short trail section. The event takes place near Fayetteville, West Virginia, and is hosted at Adventures on the Gorge, where the finish line is located at the resort rim side pool and a catered brunch is provided overlooking the New River Gorge.

The course begins on the south side of the New River Gorge on Fayette Station Road Route 82 and follows Burma Road and Ames Heights Road. Runners should prepare for an 800 foot descent and an 800 foot climb, with a steepest grade of 20 percent. Participants may walk the course but must maintain a 20 minute per mile pace to finish within the allotted closed road timeframe. On race morning, competitors check in at the finish area and are transported by bus to the start line.

Event services include a closed road course, chip timing, a water station on route, bus transportation to the start, finish line photos, a finisher medal, and a short sleeve unisex t shirt. Proceeds benefit Active Southern West Virginia free community physical activity programming including Kids Run Clubs and Community Captain programs.
