The New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race is a six-mile running road race on May 2, 2026, hosted by Active Southern West Virginia. Course, logistics and rules
The course starts on the south side of the New River Gorge on Fayette Station Road (Route 82), follows Burma Road and Ames Heights Road, descends to cross the New River, then returns to the opposite rim with a short trail section to the finish. Runners should expect a descent of about 1,300 feet and an ascent of about 1,300 feet; the steepest grade on the route is listed as 20 percent. A water station is provided on the route and bus transportation is provided to the start line.
All participants must sign a release of liability, follow race rules, and adhere to the course route. There are no refunds for cancellations; registrations may be transferred to another person. Participants who walk must maintain a 20-minute mile pace to complete the event within the allotted closed road period.
