Course and logistics

The course begins on the south side of the New River Gorge on Fayette Station Road and follows Burma Road and Ames Heights Road. The route descends about 1,300 feet, crosses the New River, and climbs about 1,300 feet back to the opposite rim, including a steepest grade of about 20 percent and a short trail section near the finish. Racers check in at the finish area and are provided bus transportation to the start line. Walking the course is permitted if participants maintain roughly a 20-minute per mile pace to complete the event within the allotted closed road timeframe.

Registration, rules and proceeds

Registration fees progress in tiers, with entry fees listed from $50 up to $70 and a last-minute packet-pickup option noted at $80 if space is available; shirts and medals are not guaranteed for last-minute registrants. The event uses chip timing, a closed road course, at least one water station, finish line photos, race shirts, and finisher medals. Every racer must sign a release of liability and follow race rules.
