Course and location

The New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race is a road running event in the New River Gorge area near Fayetteville and Lansing, West Virginia. The distance is 6 miles. The course begins on the south side of the New River Gorge on Fayette Station Road (Route 82), follows Burma Road and Ames Heights Road, descends about 1,300 feet to cross the New River, then climbs about 1,300 feet back to the rim with a short trail section to finish. The steepest point on the course reaches a 20% incline. The finish area is at the Adventures on the Gorge resort rim side pool and includes an overlook photo opportunity.

Logistics and race details

The event is hosted by Active Southern West Virginia. The race uses a closed road course and chip timing. Support on course includes at least one water station. Racers check in at the finish area and are provided bus transportation to the start line. Walkers are allowed but must maintain a 20-minute per mile pace to finish within the closed road time frame. Race packet pickup is available the Friday before the race and the morning of the event. Registration uses tiered pricing, with a last-minute packet pick-up option at a higher fee.
