Course and Route
The New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race is a running road race that goes from one rim of the New River Gorge, down to the bottom where participants cross the New River, then back up to the rim of the other side. It includes a short trail section to finish. The race distance is 6 miles. The course begins on the south side of Fayette Station Road and finishes at Adventures on the Gorge. The route involves a descent of 1300 feet and a climb of 1300 feet, with the steepest point being a 20% incline. The finish line is at the rim of the gorge.
Event Details
The event is hosted by Active Southern West Virginia at Adventures on the Gorge in the Fayetteville area. Participants will finish at the resort's rim-side pool, where a catered brunch overlooking the New River Gorge is included in the registration. On race morning, participants check in at the finish area (Adventures on the Gorge) and are provided a bus ride to the start line. Participants are welcome to walk the course but must maintain a 20-minute-per-mile pace to complete the event within the allotted closed-road time frame.
Participant Perks
Registration includes the post-race brunch, a short-sleeve t-shirt, and a finisher medal. The event features chip timing, a closed road course, a water station on the route, and bus transportation to the start line. Awards are given to the top finishers in each age bracket in the running category only.
