New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race
The New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race is a six mile running road race that crosses the New River Gorge near Fayetteville, West Virginia. The course begins on the south side on Fayette Station Road Route 82, follows Burma Road and Ames Heights Road, descends approximately 800 feet to the river, crosses the New River, then climbs approximately 800 feet back to the opposite rim. The finish includes a short trail section and an overlook photo opportunity.
The event is hosted by Active Southern West Virginia and finishes at Adventures on the Gorge, where racers end near the resort rim side pool and are provided a catered brunch overlooking the New River Gorge. On race morning racers check in at the finish area and are transported by bus to the start line. Racers may walk the course but must maintain a 20 minute mile pace to finish within the closed road time frame.
Race requirements include signing a release of liability and following race rules and the marked course. There are no refunds for cancellations, but registration transfers are allowed. Active SWV does not mail race bibs, shirts, finisher medals, or awards unless a donation of ten dollars is provided to cover shipping and handling.
Registration for the 2027 race opens September 1, 2026. The event provides a closed road course, chip timed results, at least one water station on route, a finisher medal, a short sleeve unisex t shirt, finish line photos, and a post race brunch.
