Fell Race in Wharfedale

The Burnsall Fell Race is a traditional running event held in the village of Burnsall, situated in Wharfedale on the B6160 between Grassington and Addingham. The event serves as a counter for the British Open Fell Runners Association (BOFRA) Championship.

The course covers a total distance of 2.40 km (1.50 miles) and includes a total ascent of 240 meters (800 feet). The route begins with a steady climb through open fields, transitioning into a short, steep ascent through heather to reach the cairn. Participants then navigate along the summit to the trig point before beginning the descent. The return leg typically involves a direct descent over the edge back toward the finish area.

Different age categories are established for the event to accommodate a wide range of participants:

  • Under 9
  • Under 12
  • Under 14
  • Under 17
  • Seniors

Event parking is available in a designated field located via a farm track opposite the main village car park, with a fee of £3 per vehicle. The location can be identified via grid reference 31611 or the What Three Words location camped.chilled.headlight. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
