The Brasstown Bald Buster is a road event at the Brasstown Bald Visitor Center & Recreation Area in Hiawassee, GA. The main race is a 3.1 miles road run that gains about 1700 feet of elevation on the way to the summit area.

The event includes two participation options:

  • Brasstown Bald Buster 5K: 3.1 miles road run with 1700 feet ascent.
  • Brasstown Bald Ruck: weight requirement men 25 lbs women 15 lbs and a 2.5 hour time limit to reach the top.

Prizes are awarded to the top three men and women overall in both the run and the ruck divisions. All participants receive a T-shirt and a medal; shirts are guaranteed for registrations completed by April 10, 2026.

Logistics noted by the organizer include no parking at the bottom or along roads, parking up top for runners and ruckers, and shuttle or walking access down to the start. There is no race day registration and the event does not allow transfers, refunds, or deferments. The event proceeds regardless of weather.

The surrounding area offers a paved path under one mile at the visitor area, miles of nearby trails across Union, Towns, Rabun, and White Counties, and nearby destinations such as the town of Helen and Vogel State Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Push your limits at the Yonah Mountain Vertical Challenge on Feb 21 and 22, 2026. Pick the 10,000 ft or 5,000 ft summit loops on steep, technical trail and then unwind with other runners at NoFo Brew Co.

Georgia Death Race is a legendary 74 mile trail challenge finishing at Amicalola Falls. Runners carry a 1 lb railroad spike to toss at the end and earn an engraved spike, and about 60 percent of starters finish.

Trail races in Helen Georgia include a marathon, half marathon and a 4 miler on Unicoi State Park trails. The event features aid stations, strict cutoffs, riverfront start and finish, and a post race party with food and music.

Originally planned as a point to point 100 mile trail race in Robbinsville, NC with about 22,000 ft of gain, the Appalachian 100 has been cancelled. A 50 mile option had also been listed and the event was organised by Run Bum Races.
