The Naturalist - Franklin, NC

The Naturalist Trail Race in Franklin, NC is a trail event on sections of the historic Bartram Trail that moves from downtown Franklin through Wallace Branch toward Wayah Bald. It is presented as part of Outdoor 76’s Fall Celebration and includes post-race music, food vendors, craft beer, and awards.

Distances offered:

• 25K: roughly 5,500 feet of elevation gain, finishing at Wayah Bald summit.
• 50K: more than 8,500 feet of elevation gain, circling Wayah Bald and returning along the trail.

Hydration and nutrition are available at multiple stations stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, fruit, energy bars and other snacks. Aid locations are listed at mile 3.5 (Wallace Branch, limited aid), mile 9 (Harrison Gap), mile 14.5 (Wayah Bald summit), mile 19.5 (Harrison Gap return, 50K only), and mile 25 (Wallace Branch return, 50K only). Runners ascending Wayah Bald are advised to carry at least 1 liter of water.

Logistics note a field limit of 150 total entrants and limited parking at Wayah Bald. A free shuttle returns 25K participants to the start on race day. There are time cutoffs at several aid locations; continuing after being instructed to stop may forfeit aid station services and future entry privileges. Event policy states no refunds or deferrals.
